It depends what you're looking for, I suppose.

To me, a flawless album is 'Loveless' by My Bloody Valentine. 'Psychocandy' by The Jesus and Mary Chain is another. Stone Roses' debut is another. OK Computer, Surfer Rosa, Nevermind...

Enema of the State? Hmmmm... not really. It's all subjective, of course, but I think if you're going to give that album as much praise as you do then you need a similar comparative measure like, say, 'Americana' by The Offspring or 'Dookie' by Green Day; all of which pretty much offer the same 'idea' - like, accessible Punk Rock. I can't stand any of them personally - are they all flawless? As pop albums, yes. As punk albums, no. A flawless album would be one that is both flawless as a pop album and flawless as a Punk album... and that, to me, is 'London Calling' by The Clash.

Saturday on the mainstage, at Leeds, is a day I will avoid happily.

Yeah, it is ridiculous. The Clash were good.

The thing with Blink 182 is - they came about at a time whenever people were rolling on the floor laughing at the latest penis joke Adam Sandler or Rob Schneider came out with in some deeply unfunny film. Blink 182 fit in quite well to the mentality of that audience; Enema of the State is just one great big long penis joke with the occasional mention of sex or some disease. LOLLLLLZZ!!!111

I don't really judge a band based on how much integrity they have either; or even the amount of seriousness they employ; how arty their music is, etc. I just know a good band when I hear them (or a shit band when I hear them), and if a band is going to go out of their way to employ humour in their songs or take the piss a bit then what I appreciate are bands who can do it well, and the first two bands that spring to mind are The Smiths and Pixies. It's not over-analysis, it's just an observation. Blink 182 are a dumbed down band packed to the brim full of dumbed down humour aimed at appealing to a demographic of dumbed down kids, and that, to me, is just cynical.

They're not going to change anybody's life; they're just going to be embarrassing 35 to 40 year olds repeating the same penis jokes they made 10 years ago. I don't have time for nostalgia when it comes to music.

Well, if I spared time for nostalgia I'd waste it watching films I know now are shit (like The Mario Bros Movie and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves) and listen to music I know now is VERY shit (Slipknot and The Real McCoy). I already wasted a great deal of my life watching and listening to nonsense and I don't intend to do it again, unless that nonsense just so happens to have a kitsch and campy place in my heart filled with such historical artefacts as Sensible Soccer and Conan the Barbarian.

You grow up with something and it has an appeal to you back then because you were too young, stupid and ignorant to see how shit it was but when you grow up, you don't really have an excuse - unless of course you're just being nostalgic because it's fun to look back at how stupid you were rather than how pointless a band like Blink 182 were. All those stupid haircuts, etc.

I and tens of thousands of others will enjoy ourselves during the Blink set.

You are welcome to moan and not enjoy it or avoid.

Either way you will not dampen my excitement of getting to see them play live again. They are the band i grew up with as the soundtrack to my school and college years.

Seen them before and i know they are not technically amazing musically (Although travis is a drumming god) But they have improved as musicians and put on a great show.

In the end its more about the fun that they have with the audience that makes a blink gig fun.

Looking forward to it

I have a copy of enema of the state and used to regularly listen to it, however I think callling it one of the best pop albums of all time is pushing it, theres quite a bit of filler on there. I certianly dont think it comes close to dookie by green day or blue album by weezer.

I mostly agree with Dave the Hedgehog on this, particularly the bit about London Calling being probably the only flawless album ever made. The main point I disagree with is that I kinda do have time for nostalgia with music. Blink do alright fun songs that I probably will jump about and have a sing-along to. I know it's not particularly good music, but when you're drunk and in a field full of other people having fun it doesn't matter. I'll almost definitely never listen to a Blink album ever again though.

They are absolutely dreadful live though, I'm just hoping I don't notice.

Amazed at the amount of supposed music fans saing 'I don't care if they're crap live'. It's the equivalent of going to a restaraunt & being given a dogshit sandwich. Then saying you'll eat & enjoy it anyway because it looks nice & was made by a famous chef.

I think blinks set is going to be phenominal with everybody in the crowd absolutely bouncing to every song that is played. Kaisers seemed to have that effect last year even though noboday was looking forward to them. But this year throw in the anticipation factor of blink and I think we will see the biggest moment of this bands career.

I can see it being nothing more then spectacular.

Personally I feel sorry for Reading for having Blink 182 end their festival...

Actually, no I don't.

It's interesting what you said though, pink-triangle. Most people who will be watching them will be familiar with maybe a handful of their songs; it's not really accurate to call them a legendary band.

I think with Arcade Fire, FR are giving a relatively smaller band a chance to shine (and from what I've seen and heard so far, they bloody will). With Guns N Roses, everybody with a modicum of intelligence will be in the crowd chanting along to any number of their greatest hits. With Blink 182... personally, I'm a bit confused by their inclusion.

I'm sure a lot of people will go to see them but only out of necessity because not much else is on when they're playing - whether it's intentional or not, I don't know, but that Saturday night at Leeds will be f**king depressing if they don't shove somebody great on the Alternative or Festival Republic stages. That'll be the evening I return to my tent at 8:30 - unless Hayley Williams is wearing something... provocative.
