Cornbury Festival

Hello,

This is my first time at Cornbury this year, and I wonder if anyone can give me any tips or confirm that this is not like a normal music festival. I've been to V Festival, and this year wanted something a little more sedate. I'm camping in the normal field, and I've read really good things about the festival but I'm still a little nervous that its going to be a similar experience to Glastonbury/V/Reading etc.

Have not been for a few years as it was getting expensive for what you got especially for camper van parking, but as far as festivals go Cornbury is the complete opposite to Reading, you might find it a little bit to sedate and posh as I'm not there to lower the tone if so try Beautiful Days at the end of August and come and find the hipflask of doom

Thanks Karen for a really great response to my question. You have really put my mind at rest. Is it right that there are showers on the campsite? I'm guessing these are portable showers along with the toilets, and would you recommend hiring a trolley at the car park? If the car park isnt too far from the camping field then I dont mind making two trips though.

I've been going to Cornbury every year since 2005 - it's slowly got bigger and this year should be the biggest yet but it will probably still only have around 15,000 people per day.

If you want something a lot calmer than V/Reading/Glastonbury you've chosen the right festival - it's in a beautiful setting, you can move around without bottlenecks (unlike IOW from where I've just returned) and, as more and more weekend campers attend and less day trippers, it's getting a really special chilled vibe.

It's cleaner and yes maybe a little 'posher' than most festivals and it IS deliberately different as the organizer is trying to keep it special and unique, bringing in independent breweries and independent concession stalls instead of the usual corporate giants.

Don't expect burger vans... expect to have a good choice of really good food (though not always cheap), some really individual and not the usual run of the mill shopping stalls, plus there are stalls to support local organizations - one of the schools does the hog roast, for example, the local Brownies have a tombola stall and don't miss out on the tea tent with slabs of homemade cakes and cuppas in real china, at tables with vases of flowers on them, when you're need a rest.

There are three stages: The Main, the 2nd (which is sponsored each day so that on the Saturday it has a rock feel and on the Sunday a folk feel)and a 3rd which is hosted by another local festival and features local or unsigned bands. The positioning of them and distance between them means there is virtually no 'bleeding' of sound from one stage to the other and distances between are easily walkable in a matter of minutes.

The only thing I don't like is the small fairground but that is positioned to the south of the site and you can avoid it

I always feel 'safe' at Cornbury. It's somewhere I always feel calm and relaxed, you don't get shoved around, security and stewards are helpful and friendly, never heavy, the campsite has space so you're not on top of your neighbours and it is fun without being noisy and wild and, although I go to many other festivals, this one has to be my favourite.

I always come back from it feelings as if I've had a real holiday
