j-j-j-j-joe!
I used to love their albums, but now i just can't get excited about them. And I'm sorry, but they could not pull off a headline slot. They need someone like Arcade Fire or The Strokes to give a proper finish to the day. The Libs would just be such an underwhelming finish. theramm
No chance they could headline. People are really overestimating the mainstream popularity, an important factor for a healine act, of the Libs. When they split in 2004 they only playing University gigs, small venues outside of London. They'd done no major tours & have garnered attention through tabloid fame. Arcade Fire sold out a 5 date arena tour the last time they were over. The Libs have done nothing apart from publicly splitting up to warrant a headline spot. VCK
No hype about The Libertines? I'd say they're the biggest story of this year's festival.

rockinthecasbah
Not really, only among die hard fans and the NME. They bigged the announcement up so much, and when it finally came, the nation, as one just went 'Meh'. Maybe if it had happened about two years ago there may have been more interest, but most people have just stopped caring.Don't get me wrong, they're a good band, but lots of people think that just because they're always in the news because of Doherty, that they're a massive band. They're not really that big as a band, and never were.
pink_triangle
Didn't day tickets for the day they're playing initially sell out really quickly? I'm not quite sure what the original poster meant when they said there wasn't much hype for The Libertines. The festival's still months away, so there's not going to be much build up to it yet.
