The point of the above is what? Are there any footballers, or even people in real life, that don't attempt to negotiate the best possible package they can get?

FFS, climb down off that f**king horse will you? Discussions on forums require things to be said that then get discussed.

The point is simply repeating what I'd read.

I've left it up to the reader to decide whether or not they think Cole is deserving of that wage, and/or whether his belief that he should have a matching wage to Gerrard is also matched in impact on the field.

Again, I'm not aware of many footballers that don't believe they're very good. Besides which, newspaper football editors post exclusives every day regarding forthcoming transfers. Are they all correct? Are they even correct half of the time?

The same horse comment here. ;)

Having self belief is one thing, having a ridiculous belief is another. Read the article yourself (or is this another case of where you don't have to, you know everything that could be said already?) and then be in the right place to comment on it.

Finally, has JC's opinion of himself got anything to do with his ability to play as a central attacking midfielder?

Where did I mention anything about where he might play?

The only ridiculous thing, is what I can only assume is your paranoia. I haven't ever claimed I am "real" fan or that you aren't a "real" fan. I have stated that I believe I, and other posters on here, have a better understanding of the game than you, as you don't often see the players you comment on live, where as I, and others on here, do.

Oh, so it's not even watch matches live now, you only get to be a real fan who knows anything if you watch Prem matches. Oh stupid of me.:lol::lol:

FFS. Anything which in your mind and others I've said which is ridiculous is tiny in comparison to your own self-proclaimed knowledge total stupidity.

One day, when you get to grow up, you'll get to realise it's all opinions, and even the "greats" have an error record with theirs no different to yours or mine.

At his best he was utterly unplayable, the best forward we ever had at the club and probably ever will.

At his best he was utterly unplayable, the best forward we ever had at the club and probably ever will. Just a shame that all his injuries have slowed him down so much now. I'm sure he'll end up back with us coaching at some point. Rumour is that Bergkamp will take up that role with us soon. Just how ridiculously good would it be if you were a young centre forward being coached by Henry and Bergkamp?

That entire Henry, Bergkamp, Pires, Wiltord, Viera team was unplayable. Yeah hes a proper legend, although he did take on a "Mr Superstar" personality towards the end of his Gunners days which some of the younger players didnt appreciate. Or is that bullshit?

Well in his last year there were so few genuinely experienced players left in the side I think he stood out so far as the superstar of our side that it was always going to make thing a bit tricky, but as always the media blew most bits out of all proportion. The side we had from 2002-2004 was something amazing, I just hope that once we've paid off our debts we can start to build something like that again, not sure we could though.

Will depend on whether the world cup lot get given a game. They're back on the 28th July, so it might be used to build a bit of match fitness, assess whether any will be ready for opening game. Might be seen as too soon though, but couldn't see 20-30 minutes at the end hurting really, considering friendly etc.

Last game of the tour is Chivas on the 30th, so always possibility that some of the 22 travelling could be sent home aswell if not gonna get on, though as young I'd guess they'll probably travel for the experience.

The travelling team is: Edwin van der Sar, Tomasz Kuszczak, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Dimitar Berbatov, John O'Shea, Wes Brown, Rafael, Jonny Evans, Darren Fletcher, Darron Gibson, Chris Smalling, Nani, Fabio, Federico Macheda, Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez (will join in Houston on 27 July), Mame Biram Diouf, Tom Cleverley, Ritchie De Laet, Corry Evans, Ben Amos, Gabriel Obertan.

Anderson, Nani, Rio, Hargreaves, Neville all injured.

If not, then reserves and academy; so possibly Possebon, Eikrem, Ravel Morrison, Josh King, William Keane, Nicky Ajose, Oliver Gill (David's son) maybe Pogba if short on numbers. . Think Petrucci's still injured and few gone on loan already (drinkwater, Matty James etc).

If anyones still interested in the Utd goodwill cash debate, I found where the money goes. As expected it goes back into the cashflow and is no real expense. As does depreciation and amortisation of player registrations. Basically transfer fees paid for players registrations are capitalised on date of coming in and amortised over the duration of their contract on the basis that when their contract runs out their value is £0. Treated as a capital asset, and adjusted if players extend contracts/get sold etc. It's no extra expense, as actual money for transfer fees/agent fees etc are covered in "purchase of players' registrations". Signing on fees are in staff costs. Depreciation expense is made up with increased capital expenditure (purchase of tangible fixed assets). Depreciation obviously a real cost though, just not necessarily immediate. Will require regular Capex, to replace/maintain.

As such roughly £80m goes out on the P+L account, but both the amortisation and depreciation are added straight back onto the cash flow statement. None of the above as allowable deductions for tax, so makes no difference. They'll be added back on when tax computated.

Balance sheet recognises that the goodwill amortises/depreciates, as cash equivalent added. So the asset value will be lower, but cash assets in bank higher, equal net asset balance (if didn't spend the cash).

Careful to distinguish profit on disposal from proceeds later on. Profit will obviously give rise to CGT, though offset.

cashflow1.jpg

£10,187m being the £9,350m + exceptionals £837,000. £111,186m net cash inflow from operations.

cashflow2.jpg

The £59m interest paid from cash flow in 2008 is an anomoly, due to changing interest payment dates from Feb and August, to December and June. As such made 3 interest payments that year.

Increase in net cash £100,785m overall for the 2009 year, as seen in the difference between £49,745m and £150,530m in the balance sheet below.

edit: worth emphasising that no interest payments made on the PIKS on the above accounts, just the primary loan (and from now on bonds). PIKS are on the Red Football Joint Venture ltd, and secured on the shares on Red Football Ltd. (Both formed by Glazers). So default by the Glazers means the three hedgefunds would gain the equity, (and thus the club/subsidiaries).

Equally, it'd be nice to get a reply on the bold bits below Neil?

With the tax bill that'll arrive when selling up - which in Utd's case will be payable by the club and not the Glazers.

You can't get tax relief on buying the club - which is essentially what this is being done for - and then not get taxed on it when selling. And with CGT just having gone up, that's the impact back on Utd just gone up too.

The only way it doesn't happen like that is if the club has really fallen by the value they're claiming in the accounts - and as you recognise, it hasn't, because just as the Glazers paid for 'goodwill', so will any buyer.

Cheers Ralph. Hoping we'll get to see some quality youngsters. Would be good to see one or two more experienced players but we shall see. Take it owen will be in the US too?

Think Solsjkaer is bringing the team up, would be good to see him get on for 10 minutes or so :P

Would like to see us use the game as an opportunity to try and get a youngster in on loan, any right backs going spare? :P

Will be on here to gloat if we win :P

You've never been a great poster, Ralph.

You're just too vague and never try to back up your arguments with facts or statistics.

Must try harder.

Owen's still injured aswell actually, wasn't fit enough to go on the tour but might be back and in contention by the 31st. He won't be off on the tour trip if not named. Valencia's not on the list either, so both possibilities I'd guess. As said, Rooney, Vidic, Park, Evra, Carrick could be available for small roles, though was talk of Fergie giving Evra another week if he wants it, following the french revolt!

Could be purely reserves though, not sure.

Fergie : "Antonio Valencia should be okay and Nani should be ready for the start of the season, too. Michael Owen is doing all his work in the gymnasium every day and while I don’t think he’ll be fit to go to America, he should be ready for the start of the season.” Anderson is also progressing well after tearing his cruciate ligament “He’s doing fine, he’s working hard, but it will be late September.”

In which case the money is written back into the books (it doesn't 'disappear'), and so your take of it being a lesser trading loss than the books suggest is wrong.

If £35M goes out and comes back again (which is what you're saying happens), then it's an irrelevance against the P+L - the loss as stated on the books is the trading loss they're making.

In fact, it might even be worse than that - it's difficult to get your head around (which is the whole point of such accounting ideas - the more confusing things are, the less people are able to understand the true situation). It might be the case that the losses are £35M greater than the books suggest. Without getting my head into the books in detail (which I don't have time to do) it's not possible to know.

Man City have signed David Silva from Valencia. Along with signing the better Toure and Jerome Boateng from Hamburg, that for me represents the best transfer dealings of the summer so far for me - for a Premiership club at least.

Few other interesting signings that seem to have gone unnoticed as well - Bolton signing Martin Petrov (getting on a bit but they got him for free), Thomas Hitzlsperger going to West Ham (why was he only at Lazio for five minutes?), Philippe Senderos trying to resurrect his career at Fulham.
