Added to that is the fact that he was happy to stay at Athletico who are short of being a top team, and only left cos they needed to cash him in. So that seems to indicate that being happy with the team he's with is at least as important to him as trophies (tho of course I'm not saying he doesn't want trophies).

The new ownership could be a massive boost if works out well for all parties.

Talking of the possible new owners, if that Chinese guy buys it, the club will have a new song....

"You'll never wok alone". :lol::lol:

(shamelessly nicked from Sky Sports Letters).

Tho from what I've just read and seen, it looks like that Chinese guy is nowhere in the running despite getting all the press about it - there's apparently far greater offers, and his offer isn't one that would be accepted if there were no other offers.

I suggested a long time ago that the top of the SPL is about the level of bottom of the Prem/top of the Champs.

Ampersand was one of those who responded with something like "you're only saying it's that poor cos you know nothing about Scottish football and because you hate anything Scottish" (which was probably treated with the contempt such a comment deserved).

I wonder what's changed for him to now be saying that it's far worse than I'd said?

Or perhaps it just that he hates everything Scottish?:lol:

i'm basing this on the fact that kris boyd scored a grand total of 1 goal against celtic in his entire career for rangers and kilmarnock. now, as you say that the championship is of a similar level, then boyd will struggle for goals against the majority of those teams. he only scores against poor teams. check his european record and internation record as well.

I agree. Forest hugely over-achieved last season, and although it's a young squad and it will only improve, they've sold two good players (well, loaned one out for the entire year) and don't look like being close to bringing anyone else in.

Mind you, I'm not convinced the quality of the league has increased this years. Certainly the teams that have come down don't look as strong as last years.

Haha that was random,

Pompey legend Steve Clardige just walked into our workplace (our office is an old converted manor house on a lake which is still listed as a heritage site in some places)

He wanted a look around with his daughter.

got a fiver on chelsea, boro, southampton and bradford. returns just under 2 grand if it happens.

yer fiver has gone, League Two is for the Shots this year. :D

Seriously, they've had a cracking pre-season, won every game and bagged a hatful of goals (including beating a full-strength Bristol City 3-0, who were so shocked they ran out and signed James), with the new-ish manager having brought in a heap of new players, and lost mainly the ones that I regarded as their worst. Having made the play-offs last season and looking so much stronger this season, they're going to walk it!

So that all probably means that they'll get stuffed on Saturday, and it'll all be downhill from there.

Not sure if this falls under the remit of this thread, but I ended up playing football in jeans today. I've seen women have more embarrassing ones, but I suffered the loudest and most unlikely wardrobe malfunction of all time. Had to sit on the sidelines after that, and without the threat of opponents legs being broken if they went through the middle, our team got slaughtered.

Anyway: Portsmouth.

I'm going to nail my colours to the mast. I really think tomorrow is it. It's one thing for the administrator to go public in playing up or down the problems, whichever is in the club's interest at the time, or to paint HMRC as the only bad guys in the situation. It's quite another for the club's lawyer to attempt to emotionally blackmail a high court judge through the media. He or she must really feel that HMRC are favourites to go to such lengths.

Portsmouth have been using the emotional blackmail angle ever since they had to give up on the "the club's not in trouble" bollox.

Poor old pompey, eh? It's just so unfair that they might go out of business, and none of it is their fault.

Presumably, as "fairness" is now the most important thing to the club, they'll be handing back their FA cup win and medals, given that they only got those by stealing money from others, to the disadvantage of other clubs in the competition. What would be fair would be for those other clubs to claim pompey's win was struck off!!

I would have said the win should go to Cardiff. But they only got to the final via their own stealing. Is there an honest club left out there? ;)

The honest club defo ain't Leeds, that's for sure. But I'm pissing myself at the new League rules, which - if they're really any cop - will have Bates owning up to being a lying fraudster very shortly. But here's betting that there's an easy way around it, cos otherwise I reckon it's worth a punt on Bates being in prison for major tax fraud before the end of next year.
