Its funny only a couple of month ago he was probably a contender for the liverpool job and now he will probably have to go after mid table premier jobs when they become available. Wouldnt imagine he was upset about milner going as it looks like they will get a world class transfer fee for a player who is far from a world class player. I suspect its a falling out with the chairman.

i really hope this is true (just for the hilarity) - few random musings around that juande ramos might be in the frame for the job

edit: reckon it's out of bilic, klinsmann or bruce arena

Looking forward to tomorrow Neil. Just hope the weather's as good as today. The common consensus is that we'll field the same side as against Norwich, except:

Loach replaced by Gilmartin, a regular for Walsall last year.

Eustace or Sordell replaced by Bryan, a Northern Ireland international winger.

Graham replaced by Deeney, because we haven't got a clue how we'll cope without Graham, and this is the only chance we'll get to find out.

Lineup:

Gilmartin

Hodson

Mariappa

Taylor

Doyley

Bryan

Cowie/Eustace

McGinn

Cowie/Buckley

Sordell/Buckley

Deeney

It's a similar strength side to the one that scraped through at Barnet last year. Man to watch: Will Buckley.

Looking forward to tomorrow Neil.

of course. You're gonna get whipped just like the shots whipped Bristol City a few weeks back. :D

Or alternatively, they'll play like Aldershot and that's the Carling Cup over for another year.:lol:

(am out tomorrow night, so won't get the chance to listen in on the radio :()

Right

Lets have my little say on O'Neill can I as a Villa supporter

Im glad he's gone, however the timing isn't good

O'Neill is a spoilt little brat, he's like a child, yes he's the manager but if the whole world told him he was wrong he'd stand by that he was right

Lerner has financed Villa brilliantly, he's revamped the hotel, he's invested HUGELY in the training grounds, what was it ยฃ70 million? He's given O'Neill huge transefer fees year after year for a club that wasn't getting huge transfer fees in, Champions league money or charge high ticket prices

What has O'Neill done,

brought in nothing but players who have played in England or Scotland bar Carew who he got in a swap deal, his global scouting system is pathetic

brought some good defence I agree, but he's brought awful elsewhere

Ashley Young is his one true grace, his one fluke buy

He spent ยฃ8 million on Fabian Delph and never played him

He spunked ยฃ4million on Marlon Harewood and then realised he was a donkey and never played him

He brought Heskey because he was trying to recapture when he was good at Leicester and Liverpool, EVERYONE knew he wasn't good anymore and totally wasn't the stirker we needed but he still brought him

He brought Sidwell and then after 1 season never played him again

Likewise Reo Coker, 1 season, see ya later, stay on the bench

He brought Curtis Davies for ยฃ10 million and then after 1 season never played him, he's been fit since January and he never got a look in

He brought Nicky Shorey and hardly ever played him

He brought Luke Young a right back and forced him to play all the time as Left Back, even though you have Shorey there to play LB

He brought Carlos Cueller, a award winning CB in Scotland and played him at RB

He brought Beye from Newcastle a RB, and guess what! Never played him!

He stuck with the same midfield of Petrov, Downing, Young and Milner ALL season long, and then moans the players are tired, year and year after year

THEN after he has spent all this money on players and then doesn't play them, and wants them to just sit there and rot, Lerner says Im sick of it, you're spending all of this money on players and then never play them, sell the players you've brought and no longer want then spend that money, O'Neill it seems gets fed up and walks away

I don't blame Lerner one bit for taking his stance

O'Neill has a squad of players that HE brought in, its O'Neill's squad, that he isn't happy with and never plays, and then he has all these youth players playing u21 and u19s internationals and youth cups and the reserve league that he won't play

Delfouneso, Albrighton, Lichaj, Bannan, Clark, Weimann

Those players played in and won the peace cup last summer beating Juventus and Porto and O'Neill believes they aren't good enough to play any of the premiership season?

He picked Albrighton last year first game of the season he was fantastic, but our tactics were shit and we lost to Wigan, and Albrighton got dropped for the whole campaign. Wasn't fair and it was a dumb choice.

Im so glad O'Neill has gone, it wasn't O'Neill who was the fantastic turn around for our club it was Lerner coming in and financing it, anyone could have done what O'Neill did IMO, The structure at the club is there, the money was there, the training grounds are fantastic, I can see Curbishly coming in and doing exactly the same as O'Neill as in finishing sixth, but we might do better in the Europa League lets look at two years ago, O'Neill gets us so far, to the knockout stage then plays a bunch of kids, not just a couple and blend them in, he sent the whole youth team RAW to an away European game and we went out, thats some f**king bad management there, then last year we went out straight away to Rapid Vienna, a side who's best striker got brought hy Wolves and then sat on the bench all season. Whats the point of finsih in the league and getting a place in Europe if you're just gunna throw it away?

For the little good O'Neill did, he did so much that was bad, Hopefully we will get someone in who will use the squad and change tactics instead of long ball, long ball, long ball.

And thats that, you can all think otherwise of O'Neill but he's just an average manager, who thinks of himself only, and he's proved it by leaving 5 days before the season, he should have gone 2 months ago. The momey excuse is no excuse, he's had tons over the years, he's wasted it in his opinon by not picking who he has brought.

That was f**king pathetic that, who the f**k did he think they were?

They were always going to struggle to finish fourth but to blatantly toss off a European competition like that was complete bollocks. Boils my piss when f**king Skysports, armchair, big four nobheads describe it as a nothing competition, and for Villa to piss away a chance at a European run where they could have done something really put me off them.

I agree his transfer record isnt great but its hard to argue with his results. I guarantee in the 3 seasons he has finished 6th that villa were not in the top 5 highest wage bills in the league, so why should they be finishing higher. A lot of villa fans on the radio are saying that martin o neil has taken villa as far as he can and they need someone to take them to the next level. To finish 4th they will need to finish above 3 of arsenal, liverpool, man u, chelsea, man city and spurs. Villa could get jose mourinio and I dont think they would manage that.

I don't expect us to finish higher to be honest, I was just sick of him getting money, buying players, not using them then come new year everyone is knackered and O'Neill moans the squad isn't big enough, players are tired etc, theres no excuse. He had money, he spent it then wants more.

Another thing, the Cup Final, Vidic should have been sent off and then Villa would have won.

WTF? f**k off, Merson was spouting this bollocks earlier on Sky Sports, so you get to a Cup Final and the only way you can win is by the other team going down to 10 men, no, we got to the final, O'Neill got his tactics wrong and 11 v 11 we lost, simple as. Man U not having Vidic sent off was no excuse for us losing. Sick of hearing that shit. f**king man up.

O'Neill did what he did with what he had, but truth be told, he had more resources, he just didn't use them.
