You sound like a bloke who comes from Wolverhampton. People, stones, glass houses and all that ;):P:D

got dragged to this too by mates who loved it and kept banging on for the rest of the weekend about how great her voice is  bit too much like shouting for my liking and all the way through i was trying to think who she looked like and it eventually hit me that theres more than a passing resemblance to ziggy stardust... without the good tunes obviously!

My dad - God rest his soul - would have agreed with so many of you in this thread. He was always telling me how this singer just shouted and that musician couldn't play his instrument. He even used to say he couldn't tell the boys from the girls. I always thought he was a bit out of touch. I thought he was a bit narrow in his tastes - expecting everyone to sound like the melodic, tuneful singers of his youth. He'd have agreed with so many of you, my dad.

My dad would have been 97 this October.

IMO Florence is really over hyped but i do think she has a good voice albeit one thats out of control and she sounds like she is shouting.I have found that shes better when doing a cover, she sings more and shouts less.I thought her Glasto appearance this year was pretty average and the Chain was trully dreadful but i think she will improve with age.

Lets hope so! She is no Lou Rhodes.

I for one like Florence, she does polorise opinions though :D , and i do fell that she has absolutely rang dry her album. When she came on the scene she was edgy and raw, sometimes you can just saturate yourself. I'm pleased she played a couple of new ones though which sounded good. The trouble with keeping in the public eye whilst you are writing new stuff is that you can become boring singing the same stuff all of the time.

its not as though she is the only one who has been a bit out of tune at Glastonbury.

perhaps not, but she's BY FAR the worst I've heard on any festival stage for at least a decade. A few weeks ago when I'd seen them I was saying something similar about Ian Broudie's awful out of tune singing with the Lightning Seeds which was the worst I'd heard, but Flo easily surpassed it.

Anyone can have an off-day I guess, and perhaps I've been unlucky enough to catch Flo twice on her off days. But Glasto was definitely an off-day as shown by the posts in this thread and recognised by many more than just me (and including many who like her).

I'm surprised at Mr Efestivals starting this thread. It just gives the music police the chance to ridicule those that enjoyed the set (of which I would say there were quite a few)

I'm allowed an opinion no less than you, surely? ;)

People are more than welcome to have enjoyed it. That doesn't change anything about her inability to hit or hold a note.

Whatever they might have been for the rest of the set, the word 'dreadful' is the correct to use for the attempt at 'The Chain'.

It's not music snobbery to expect a singer to be able to hit and hold a note. Flo couldn't for any of the part of the set that I saw or heard.

I like Florence and the Machine. I went to Pinkpop this year and didn't know who she was, but spent a while listening to all the Pinkpop artists on Spotify and Flo was the one that stood out the most, for all the right reasons.

So I went to see her set and really enjoyed it! I admit I didn't like their cover of "The Chain" much.

Flo said she started off in a little tea tent at glastonbury and worked her way up to The Other Stage - I've got lots of respect for artists that make it that way, rather than Simon Cowell's foisted tripe or likes of Lady Gaga et al.

i'm slightly biased as i'm a huge Fleetwood Mac fan - but this is one song that shouldn't really be touched - mainly because the guitar parts are reasonably complex and Stevie and Lindsey's voices are so unique.

I reserved judgement until I saw the footage - and yep, she ruined it.

Nice idea, poorly executed.

I didn't see her at the festival because she's not my cup of tea

However I sat down with my 8 year old to watch the coverage on TV

After about 2 minutes he looked at me bemused and said "Daddy - she can't sing!"

I completely agree with him - he couldn't see the emperor's new clothes and was honest enough to say so
