Forget Specsavers, you should have gone to GLASTONBURY (Fact)

Hi All,

Having just returned from one of the best weeks of my life at Glastonbury I am intrigued as to why people would choose another festival over the legendary daddy of them all - Glasto? In my humble opinion all the other 'dirty festival' would never be a patch on it, so considering they are all around the same price, why oh why would you not choose to come to Glastonbury??

Have the majority of people going to other festivals also been to Glasto? What are your thoughts? How do u compare them? What about people who simply think Glasto aint for them....? Crazy!

Obviously if you tried and failed to get a ticket then this is fair enough, but seriously people cant prefer to go to V, Leeds, Reading etc over the Glastonbury??

Thoughts on a postcard.??

Why go to a festival other than Glastonbury?

wtf?

Because Glastonbury sucks maybe? I just looked at the line-up, and on that entire list I could count on one hand the amount of bands/acts I'd actually want to see! It looked incredibly dull.

That, and because it is the festival of the establishment these days - any festival that attracts middle-class media types the way Glastonbury does is of no interest to me.

Ive never been cus it looks f**kin huge and would take an age tio move from stage to stage, that an V is on my doorstep and the line up never really looks like anything more than I can get at V. Download has a party nighttime atmosphere and V is laid back enough for me to chill out, there may be some extra stuff like circus folk etc but im not that fussed.

I hate it how every festival on here has to take a back seat to the almighty Glasto, yes Ive never been but I have been to V, Reading, Download, TITP, SSW and others on more than one occasion and I don't feel as if im missing out whatsoever. Glasto snobbery on here is pretty bad, it has the same acts, they start and finish the same time, its not like its Rock AM Ring going on until 3am is it? So what is the 24 hour vibe, what people chatting to each other whilst theres some music on in the background? You get that at any fest, so whats exactly SO different?

Dirty Dave, Whilst I agree with you that Glastonbury pisses all over any other festival in the world from a great height, You're not really inviting a friendly response.... and having a pointless dig at download, which is a f**king brilliant festival unlike any other...... One that I'm guessing you've never been to.

Whilst I love getting my metal on at download, it's line up does lack in quality further down the bill, chosing Middle of the road AC/DC cover bands over the metal & rock bands actually doing something interesting. Bands like Converge, Melvins, Fantomas, ISIS, Minus the bear, 80s matchbox b-line disaster, 65 days of static, Baroness, f**ked up, Kong, Future of the left, And so I watch you from afar, The sword have been in europe loads of times over download have never been booked.

And they allways seem reluctant to vary things & book a wildcard. Bands like Gogol Bordello, Manic street preachers, Cypress hill (should have been booked this year), The Mars Volta would surely get a reasonable crowd.

I think it can be said for fans of metal more than those of any other genres. Most metalheads, just like metal.... and barely consider going near anything else. This is what kind of bores me about download slightly. I love my metal & love how download has that fun, mosh pit vibe going on, and I enjoy it way more than I do Leeds or Reading.

But I still consider download to be just a massive, 3 day, outdoor metal gig, whereas, glastonbury is a week long holiday in the best festival site on the planet.

I'd go to glastonbury if JLS were headlining, because it's a festival and there's allways something to do, where as at download, the entertainment outside the arena is limited and I'd find myself at points stuck with the clash of 5 boring, middle of the road AC/DC cover bands on.

I'm doing both next year mind.

I take my hat off to anyone who can be f**ked to read all of that.

LOL

I did go to Glastonbury and what interests me the most about the OP is the concept of slating a festival that hasn't been attended... :D

They're two completely different festies, and I go to them both for completely different reasons, and that's as much as I can be bothered to type on the subject right now because the whole 'this festie is better than that festie' debate is mind blowingly dull... it's up to the individual and their tastes, surely???

Why would I go to Glastonbury? I like metal and heavy rock. None of that at Glasto! Closest you got were Muse and I don't like them!

I had a ticket for Glasto booked.

But I decided to sell it in order to go to Sonisphere.

My reason?

Music choice!

I would never say i wont go to Glasto, but Download will always come first because I know the music there is to my liking.

Plus, I really hate the whole celeb watching fiasco. Who cares what Kate Moss is wearing? And why in the blue hell would you choose to wear wellies in 80 degree heat?

In my opininon anyone who is mainly into hard rock or heavy metal music would be an idiot to choose Glastonbury over Download or Sonisphere. Yes there is lots to do at Glastonbury and it has a great atmosphere but if rock music is your thing then you are not going to find many acts to your taste. Some may come back and say you should just be open minded, listen to different types of music and just enjoy the Glastonbury atmosphere. Fair enough but if paying 200 quid for a music festival most people would rather go to a festival where there are a lot of bands they like rather than one that has only a few scattered over the weekend.

There are festivals that I wouldn't go back to due (partly) to non musical reasons - T in the Park which I went to for 10 years I would not go back to due to both the mainstream nature of the bill and the amount of neds that have appeared in the last few years. Leeds which usually has a fairly good musical bill for my tastes I hated when I went and would never go back. At the end of the day I would however always choose a festival like Download - great atmosphere, good campsite village, plenty to do after the arena closes and vitally accomodating my type of music over Glastonbury - great festival but not really my musical cup of tea.

ha ha.the same person has posted this on a few forums to try to raise a reaction. yes, some glasto fans on here do get a bit above themselves but most of them can see that people choose reading/download for the music.

the glasto fans who make me laugh are the ones who cant see that some people are not prepared to trade watching their favorite bands for the 'loads of other things besides music' that goes on in glastonbury.

as some have mentioned on here, for the average sane rock fan, rage,ac/dc and aerosmith are a much better proposition than the various other things going on in glasto.
