The Prodigy

I love The Prodigy but to be honest I'm sick of the sight of them, over the last three years they've played near enough every festival going and it's been nearly the exact same set every time. I nthink after this summer it'll be time to dissapear for a bit and regroup and make a new album.

It's a shame they have abused their tour dates (saw them twice in the same weekend...)

I preferred them around about "Their Law" was released as not everyone knew who they were and were not on Radio 1 every day of the week.

but.....

I will always f***ing love them : )

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE THE PRODIGY! They deserve it loads and are a seminal crossover act, they were amazing at Rockness last year. I wish i could go to Milton Keynes, Chase & Status, DIOYY,Enter Shikari, Pendulum and The Prodigy :D ! Head exploding good lol!

Although I grew up on The Prodigy, ever since Experience I've loved them, used to listen to them religously. I seriously doubt I'd bother seeing them again for a good few years. Their recent tours have been dragged out for too long over the last two years. And Maxim and Flint began to piss me off a couple of years back with their incessant screaming onstage over perfectly good dance music and heavy beats. Maxim in particular does my f**king nut in. All I want to do is listen to Howlett do his thing, not him screaming constantly.

A Liam Howlett only set however would be a thing of beauty and right up my street.

Pretty much agree with everything you said here. I still have a love for them and always will but your right about Maxim going a bit OTT. Gets a bit tedious when you have seen them over 10 times in the last few years but I suppose if any band toured that much, and you kept going to see them, it would be pretty much the same. 2ManyDJ's are a fine example of another group who need to change it up a bit but I still would go see them, just love what they do.

I've seen Liam Howlett do a set before. It was brilliant seeing him DJ for the first time but he honestly wasn't that great. He was mashing up punk, ska, rock, hip-hop plus a ton of other shit and a bit of Prodigy for good measure. On paper this sounds amazing but he didn't do it too well. Still, I saw him and at that point I was at my peak for loving the Prodigy and thought he looked pretty cool. Would love to see him have a go at it again, doesn't happen anywhere near enough as it should.

Just back from Spain where I saw them at Benicassim.

I always wondered what all the fuss was about and was dragged to the stage kicking and screaming but.........

I was BLOWN AWAY. AMAZING performance/performers. Would happily pay to see them again and again, much like with 2manydjs

I know what you mean man and I agree with what your saying. The thing is I've only seen them three times in the last few years and each time they've left a sour taste in my mouth (not the pills for once  ). Saw them at the Point in Dublin in 2006, thought they where utter shite. They played for like an hour and f**ked off, no encore, nothing, huge gaps between songs etc. At Oxegen 2008, same thing, except Maxim began to get his serious loudmouth which made it more annoying than enjoyable. And finally Rockness 2009, whilst it was a good gig, even though the sound let them down slightly, it was Maxim and the state of the set in general that just pissed me off. Howlett just does'nt seem to bring his A game anymore which is such a shame. It just pisses me off because I loved them so. Anyway rant over, I'm just kinda done with them at this stage, and would choose most other acts over going to see them live again. Unless they release another album of course.

On a side note man, what did you really think of 'Invaders Must Die'? For all that its worth I didn't think it was up to scratch. I'm not trying to take away from it at all, I liked a lot of tunes from it and it was nice to reminisce to the old Prodigy beat, but to me it just felt like it had been done before, it was a bit half arsed. I was kind of hoping for a darker progression from 'Always Outnumbered', which I thought was a blinding album, but got critiscised so much Howlett felt he needed to change tact, go back to his roots, to what the masses wanted. Shame really because he laid that album down on his own after 7 years out cold, in his house studio, without Flint or Maxim, another reason I felt it was so good.

Anyway its 5 bells so I'm homeward bound B)

Invaders Must Die is far from Liam Howlett at his best IMO, I can't see past Jilted as his finest moments and still one of the best dance albums ever made aswell, but I still enjoyed listening to IMD but having all the albums to choose from on the Ipod, I find myself listening to the earlier stuff more. I suppose it's because that's what I grew up with and as much as I want it to be the same now, it simply isn't and Invaders was a good stab but he's making music for the masses now rather than the real old school Prodigy fans and your right about 'Always Outnumbered', some amazing hooks and beats on that album, should've stuck with that style. I still try and enjoy them as much though and you can't beat hearing Poison or Voodoo People live, in fact heading down tomorrow night to see them at Milton Keynes and it's going to be explosive. Can't be arsed with all the rest of the bands playing, this could be the goliath of Prodigy gigs, just going to put all my mixed feelings about their current tunes to one side and for one last time, go f**king bananas!!!

Poleski, just after THE BARRAS they played in the secc with the foo fighters supporting, and it was great, (not quite as good as the barras, they had fish tanks at the barras and smack my bitch up was called smash my picture=), but it did kick ass, so i was wrong it diminished after fat of the land. I saw Howlett at homeland and though he was crap, though, breakbeats not my thing.

it was always his band, but recently it seems like his band. Yet, the essex boy has lost the I don't give a f**k attitude that they had when they stopped playing out of space and started covering L7.(Grew up in southend and love the arrogance of it and the fact they know its the centre of the world) Its hard to explain that feaeing of seeing that and attitude to people who didn't see it. (my mate had a minute stare out with keith, my mate won) but it may be that its a been there seen it thing, but trust me when i say I've seen countless of bands over my 16 years of gig going and bands still surprise me.

Thats what annoys me, I feel like the prodigy have found what works and stuck to it, where once they blew the rules of the live show apart. (they had fish tanks for god sake, with real fish, I'm a vegi, but it was still cool)

Personally I prefer them in a big place like the SECC they are a warehouse band and thats where they belong... it would be cool to see them in an intimate venue but I just don't think it would have the same appeal to me personally as seeing them work a massive crowd.

I agree that they should probably go away for a bit and return with new material, I also think it's partly me getting older but their live show doesn't have the same buzz about it as when I first seen them in 05... then again thats probably cause in 05 I was the teeny bopper and didn't have to worry about other teeny boppers :P

Just back. Absolutely the best Prodigy gig I've ever been to and I've seen them 20+. They played tunes from Experience like 'Weather Experience' and a mix of 'Everybody in The Place' that just absolutely blew my mind. Every second was insane and all that I thought bad about The Prodigy recently, right out the f**king window.

Support was superb from Pendulum (they're f**king nuts!!), Chase and Status were alright but Prodigy just wiped the floor with everybody. I doubt I will go see them live again because nothing is topping that. Old school as f**k, it was just a massive rave!!!
