Wooderson
Ive seen a shitload of gigs. Don't have the time or memory to list them here. But to enter into the spirit: Best gig? Blur at GF09 or Macca at GF04. Both shows exceptional but the reaction/involvement of the crowd was humbling at times. Only "important" gigs ive ever been at. Worst gig? The Cardigans in Tipperary in 96. Yes, even worse than the mid 2000's GnR. Most out-there ive ever been for a gig? Flaming Lips in 2005 at Electric Picnic. *shakes head at how messy i was*. Most sober I've been for a gig? Nancy Griffith with my parents in 1987 in Dublin. Terrifying. Times moved to tears at a gig? Three. Only once from sheer happiness though. Biggest surprise? Gotta be Status Quo last summer. Was not expecting that at all. Biggest yawn? Killers at Glasto the second time. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz Biggest F*ck Up? Missed Homme/Grohl/Lanegan/Oliveri in the Ambassador in Dublin in 03. Also missed Grant Hart from Husker Du in the v late 1990s. Inexcusable. Most seen bands? Chems/Queens/Orbital/Prodigy more than a dozen times. Seen Queens in 5 or 6 diff countries. Most seldom seen bands relative to amount of time listened to? B Boys (twice) / Bowie (once) / Ween (twice) / Them Crooked Vultures (once) / Janes Addiction (once) Havent seen? ZZ Top / Patti Smith / Public Enemy / Boards of Canada Bands that played the 90's that I was just too young to see (and it hurts!)? Talk Talk / Stone Roses. Most missed bands that no longer tour? Lemon Jelly. Saw them 6 times. Brilliant fun.
philipsteak
No chance of remembering all the bands I've seen, even though its a lot less than some on here, I just have a shit memory. And as for remembering who I've seen at festivals, no chance. But I do remember first and last. First: Carter at Bangor Uni student union around 1993/4? Last: Fat Freddy's Drop in Dunedin a couple of months ago.
Greeny_Musicchild
First: Idlewild at Nottingham Rock City in 2002, i stood by the amps and my ears rang for 2 days afterwards. Last: Stone Sour at Download. Worst was Oasis at Milton Keynes Bowl in 200and something. I passed out in a ditch and missed all four support bands, sadly i didn't stay in the ditch for Oasis and really ruined my day. I can never decide on a best although the Prodigy are always up there. //ross
first gig - Travis / SECC / 2003 aged 13 first gig without dad - Blink 182 / SECC / 2004 last gig - frightened rabbit last night band i've seen most - frightened rabbit 30+ times.. don't worry they're friends! best gig - babyshambles because the night brings back memories of kissing lots of girls, drinking spirits, kate moss, and sneaking back stage / greenock town hall / 2005 most memorable gig - arctic monkeys at the start of 05.. every person in the room knew every word to every song and not a single track had been officially released or recorded. special evening a good gig that I was expecting to hate - all american rejects and zebrahead / Barrowland / 2006 bands I want to see most but never have - bon iver, the national (seeing them in November though) The Strokes were at the top until rockness last month. guilty secret - robbie williams at murrayfield 04.. enjoyed it! most disappointing gig - Counting Crows. Adam was pished and shite / T / 2008 favourite band live - we are scientists (seen them 6 times and met them a few times, never fail to amuse) favourite venue - Captains Rest / King Tut's I've seen pretty much any currently touring band you can name so my list surprises me. swede
Best gig - The Who at Isle of Wight Festival 2004 - Ive never been in a crowd with so much emotion and its still the best thing Ive ever seen, they were amazing. People around me were hugging each other after the gig and ringing friends/loved ones to tell them what theyd just seen. Worst - Angels and Airwaves Leeds Festival 2007 - utter garbage !! rachbon
i'm not even going to attempt to list every band i've seen. i'd need to go back through the line ups for all the festivals i've been to cause it's so hard to remember them all. i can't even remember what gigs i've been to. i always completely forget i've been to gigs. first actual gig without my parents was good charlotte in 2002 when i was 15. last gig was brian jonestown massacre. best gig was smashing pumpkins at the carling academy in 2007. worst gig was HIM at the barras in either 2002 or 2003.. can't remember exactly. OneLittleFish
First was Placebo Last was Brian Jonestown Massacre Best was The Flaming Lips Worst was The Smashing Pumpkins Gigs that my eyes have gone a bit moist at: Pixies, Villagers, Blur, Flaming Lips Biggest pleasant surprises: Yeasayer, Lightning Seeds, Marmaduke Duke, Twilight Sad Biggest shocks at how piss poor they are: Smashing Pumpkins, Mystery Jets, Bruce Springsteen Seen most times: Idlewild (x14) Top 10 live performances I've seen: 1 - Flaming Lips (Glastonbury 2010) 2 - Thom Yorke & Johnny Greenwood (Glastonbury 2010) 3 - Neil Young (Glasto 2009) 4 - Blur (Glasto 2009) 5 - Radiohead (Glasgow Green, 2008) 6 - Pavement (Glasgow Barrowlands, 2010) 7 - Idlewild - b-sides and rarities set (Glasgow Byblos, 2008) 8 - Pixies (Edinburgh Meadowbank Staduim, 2005) 9 - Sonic Youth performing Daydream Nation (Glasgow ABC, 2007) 10 - The Specials (Glasgow Academy, 2009) I'm estimating between 250-300 different bands seen live and around 400-450 live performances by now. Back in my day I was at around a gig every week or so, now I prefer to just go for stuff I know that I'll like rather than "so and so's come to town, better go see them".
