Comedy

I woudn't say truth with the Office, more experience. it seemed to have a niche audience (I may be wrong) and that was office workers or people in similar roles. I certainly saw parallels with myself but I could not see how all of it was funny except in a self mocking style.

But back on topic. There is some great comedy around, and I will add to the likes of Stewart Lee. But his former partner is doing some great shows (saw Richard herring in Edingburgh) You still have Robert Newman and Hugh Dennis from The Mary Whitehouse Experience writing alot.

I wonder how many of us are still listening to the radio comedy shows. Andy Hamiltons stuff can be hysterical sometimes for instance (and I still love listening to my tapes of Victr lewis Smith (1991?) and even Round the Horne).

Stu Francis made me laugh out loud more than I expected too. He's a one liner stand up, and for some reason the following line got me chuckling...

I preferred French over Chemistry at school, the Teacher and I didn't get on... There was no...rapport.

One thing that is definitley not comedy is anything Jon Culshaw is involved in. I just heard his "impression" of Eamonn Holmes on Five Live and I had to be told it was Eamonn Holmes he was impersonating. The man is NEVER funny and NEVER sounds like who he is supposed to be doing.

The only impressions I've ever laughed at are the likes of ones seen on South Park and Bo Selecta - it's almost as if the worst impressions are actually the best. I think in the case of South Park it's down to the fact it's usually Trey Parker doing the impression, and he has possibly the funniest voice of all time.

John Culshaw and Alastair McGowen are dire, really dire. But they aren't as dire as their female side bints they usually have, who are somehow ten times more shit.

Im off to see Greg Davies (the headmaster from inbetweeners) at the beginning of November. He's playing Hulls annual comedy festival and he's playing a little wine bar near me, tickets are only £8, I cant wait :D

I also really like Stewart Francis, Milton Jones and Russel Kane at the moment.
