no it wasn;t - think how many are unemployed, yes 3000 applying is a high number-but there's many who have no intention of working

i.e. that girl I know who's pregnant again , when she already has a 1year old kid at 20..I doubt she'll ever work? maybe i'm wrong

3000 are applying for bloody PRIMARK because there's nothing else going, and they want jobs. Duh.

Tbh I think the rise in people going to university is because everyone leaving college / sixth form is well aware that there's no chance they'll get a job with a few A Levels in the current climate, so they're popping off to uni so the average taxpayer can support them for a few years in the hopes that things will settle down and more jobs will crop up later.

There are soo many mis-informed daily mail readers posting in this thread.

No compassion understanding or any thought for the pople we are talking about.

I've never met anyone who got pregnant just to get a council flat, i've known people who were careless, a bit stupid and emotionally undeveloped but thats not a crime. Do you lot who are spouting this shit not think that people might need support and coaching to get into work not condemnation and accusations.

With your propaganda about these people you are doing as much to keep them where they are, as the media does. Frankly its predjudice and Intimidation.

There's around 3,000,000 unemployed.

Care to guess at how many jobs there are available? Whatever the number is, it's only a tiny proportion of the number of unemployed. That means that if everyone without a job wanted a job, they'd still be the same number of people without jobs. ;)

So while you might like to think of those without jobs as lazy, the simple fact is that if they aren't, everything is still the same.

So .... is it better to have all those people wanting jobs but being hugely frustrated by the fact they can't have one, or is it better that some are happy to be without jobs and because of that they're not causing social unrest?

It comes down to this: if everyone that was unemployed desperately wanted a job, then society would VERY quickly break down thru riots and crime, as people tried to get what is morally their right no less than it is others.

From where I'm sat that wouldn't actually be a bad thing, as it would ultimately help create a far fairer society. But for most people that like to consider themselves "right thinking and right acting" that would be a disaster as many would lose the privileges they've gained thru the unfair structure of our society - their nice house, their nice car, their highly paid job, etc.

Be careful what you wish for. It's far from the simply cured scenario that the simple view of unemployment gives you. ;)

atm a lot of them drink, smoke and have sky..all luxuries!

and yes shareholders arte greedy..but wouldnt you be if you'd invested money? at least they probably did something to get their money in the first place, plus they provide employment through companies they're involved in

Might be worth watching last weeks World Strictest Parents... The 17 year old girl in it is a f**king classic example of the type of person you say you have never met.
