Goes some way to show the importance of organisation (i.e. tickets). They should have had an estimate on how many were going to turn up, free tickets would have gone some way to avert this. If this was to be a "just turn up" festival - then at least hold it in a field or near a beach, not in some city near some old tunnels with only a couple of exits :P

Tragic! :(

I've posted in the thread about this in Glasto Chat but from the media reports coming through it just sounds so badly mismanaged and planned.

Disregard and disorder. I am aware this was the first year the event had taken place at this new venue as the Love Parade keeps having to be moved to a different location for whatever reason be it coping with numbers, unsuitable venues and so on. Although I am not sure if this was a totally free event or if there was some sort of ticketing to allow for organisers to have some idea of numbers, I WAS under the impression year in year out that although the event does have higher numbers than other years sometimes, it still attracts a million plus people more or less each time from across Europe...so WHY was such a wholly unsuitable venue decided upon?

It is such a shocking thing to happen. As I mentioned in my other post, Leeds Love Parade organisers had the sense back in 2000 to understand that the numbers of free party goers were going to be too high for the streets of the city to cope with and so very swiftly rearranged the party to be held out at Roundhay Park which certainly saved the day.

It will all come about in the inquiries hopefully and I do hope some very harsh penalties come down on those who bloody well deserve it for their utter stupidity and ignorance. It doesnt and wont unfortunately bring the people no different from you or I back who headed out on Saturday morning for what should have been a fun day full of friendship and music. R I P x x x
