Lots and Lots of alcohol!

Basically a group of about 9 of us are going to Leeds this year, 7 have an early bird but me and my friend are having to go on the 26th. Anyway, with us being there for a good 4 days, we are going to be wanting to take a lot of alcohol. Is there any suggestions on how to get such large amounts of alcohol into the campsite, as we are only 17 years old. We will be planning to take about 2 crates each, and a couple of bottles of vodka each. Will there be any problems us getting into the campsite with this much, especially considering our age? and is it best to just take it all in a separate camping bag, or in a cooler or what? Thanks in advance.

Firstly, is there a reason for you not going on the wednesday? If its just cos you don't have early entry tickets go here and order some.

The best way I find is to just walk in with it. They don't ask for ID when your going into the campsite, and assuming that you don't look too young people won't even question you, if they do though just say your carrying it for someone else in your group.

With bottles of vodka, since glass is banned from the site, just pour them into empty lemondae bottles and hey presto the fear of losing your alcohol is gone and you have no glass to carry.

Try and take a cool box / or cool bag. with ice and icepacks in, an absolute nightmare to carry if your going far, but an absolute godsend as cans are cold or at least chilled most of the weekend.

War cans arn't so bad unless your drinking them in the morning before the arena. Once you get in the arena, providing you can get served you will get nice cold pints. When your already drunk warm cans arnt as bad after the entertainment.

underneath my tent were pretty cool tbh !

aslong as your drink isnt in glass bottles you should be cool.

we managed to get bottles of wine in last year, but our tent was searched due to camping near dealers and they took them off us plus asked my mate for ID, although he was 20 so its cool.

aslong as you dont draw loads of attention to yourself you should be cool ID wise

Cant go on the 25th, as my friend doesnt get back from Peru until that day, and it's my birthday that 25th so thought i'd spend it with the family, but thanks for all ur replies . We don't look young at all so should be fine, probably take my friends ID just in case it's needed. Thanks

i've heard the idea of digging a hole under the tent and putting them there? but i can see a few flaws in this plan haha...

1. How the f**k do you get at them?! Do you take your pegs out everytime you want a beer?!

2. If you do dig a hole surely after a skinfull you'll forget and fall into it whilst walking into your tent which won't end well haha.

Other than that, seems like a great idea

I never really understood why people are so fixated on getting absolutely trashed at festivals. I mean, everyone likes a party and alcohol certainly contributes to the atmosphere of the festival, but I don't get why people are so obsessive about it. I mean, does it really heighten your festival experience so much to be absolutely blitzed to the point that you can barely stand? I saw so many people passed out in the campsites and the arena last year, and I can't help but wonder why you'd spend so much money on a ticket just to miss so much of the festival through being unconscious or nursing the mother of all hangovers. I think it must be an age thing...

I mean, everyone likes a party and alcohol certainly contributes to the atmosphere of the festival, but I don't get why people are so obsessive about it. Beyond that, it just seems a bit counter-productive. Again with the sweeping generalisations, but it seems to be mostly the younger ones who see the fest as a drinking competition. I can understand that to an extent, I guess. I suppose it's all a part of coming of age or something...

Heh, probably! I know I must sound like a miserable old git, but I'm really not! I'm all for having fun and I'm looking forward to a 5-day blow-out as much as everyone else...it just baffles me to think that the getting wrecked seems to be the primary reason for a lot of people going.

I've never been to Glasto before...how does the crowd compare to the usual R&L crowd? Obviously it's a lot bigger, but is it a similar kind of crowd in terms of age, music scene, culture, diversity etc?

Aye, I've no doubt that there are plenty of older people in the same state! I wasn't looking to point fingers or anything...it was just a general observation I'd made over the last few years that there were a lot of younger people who'd gotten themselves into quite a state. You're definitely right about it not just being an age thing...I just think that there's a rather prominent tendency for the younger people to over-indulge a little, but they're by no means the only ones. Totally agree with your philosophy of sober(ish) by day, drinking by night...it creates a nice balance

If you arrive on the Wednesday then you have two days of boozing then you can calm down a bit on the other days. I must admit I have went a bit mental on the booze at fests in the past but I've calmed down a bit now. The main problem is most people don't know there limits.

Hmm well im 22 and last year i was only drunk enough to have one hang over, normally i like to spend the festival tipsy but quite a few people do take it too far, i remember seeing one 30 year old doing coke off a weely bin 2 years ago. I dont get why you would want to be off your head at a festival.

I have a beer fridge, it works well.

It was simple to make and very effective :-)

Here's how

Try to get hold of a large plastic Jerry can. They are usually green but the darker the better.

(the ones thats you see outside a caravan for waste water are perfect.)

Wash it.

Make sure to filling hole is sealed.( just superglue the screwtop lid)

Lay it on one side and cut a half circle in the side. Make it big enough to get your hand/cans in.

fold the half circle up and down to make a sort of hinge.

Fill it with water about half way.

Drop in your cans. With it being dark the water doesnt heat up quickly.

The water will keep your cans cool.

Sounds a like hard work maybe but you can take it empty and fill it when there.

Well worth it too.
