Band cancellations 2010

Dear All,

As you may be aware, each year most festivals have between 5-10 cancellations, if not more... and we have certainly been unlucky in the past with about 4-5 cancellations each year, some even as late as the day before the show. It's just the way that things are in the world of festivals.

When this happens, we are just as disappointed as you are, as we love these bands and they have often been on our wish list for years!

The reasons behind cancellations are many:

- it can be due to a change in management or record label (often record labels help fund their tours)

- it can be purely down to finances (touring is expensive, if you're not a BIG band)

- sometimes a band member is taken ill or their close family is very poorly

- sometimes a baby is due, that wasn't planned at the time of confirming the show

- sometimes an album release is put on hold, and it no longer makes sense for the band to go on tour

- sometimes their recording plans change and they have to be in the studio

- and so on, the list is long...

Unfortunately we can't do anything about it, apart from finding a replacement that is equally good and exciting.

Some of the bands that have cancelled this year (see list below) have already been replaced and for those who haven't, we are working hard to confirm the right band to fill the gap as soon as possible.

Cancellations 2010: AA Bondy, Emily Loizeau, The Fresh & Onlys, Ladyhawk, Megafaun, Papercuts

The festival will still be fantastic as a whole, and who knows - maybe you'll discover a new favourite in the bands that step in to replace the cancellations. We hope that you will enjoy the festival and all the music that will be on offer as much as we do.

Cheers,

The End of the Road Team

Thanks for the update, Sofia. I hope you don't think that anyone here holds you or EOTR responsible for the drop-outs. These things happen, as frustrating as they are. Even if suitable replacements can't be found (and I'm sure they can, look at the last minute replacements last year!) the bill is every bit as strong as previous years and I, for one, cannot wait for September to finally roll around.

Still, the thought of new artists being announced has got me tingling with excitement!

Yes Sofia, thanks for taking the time to provide this information. Yet again you demonstrate the difference between EOTR and lots of other festivals.

I am sure we all have our own dissappointments (Ladyhawk for me :( ) but I am also sure that EOTR will be as amazing as ever !

Wow that is some bad luck for such a small festival. I was at Glastonbury which is much bigger, and I'm pretty sure no bands cancelled for that. Sure I would have read about it on these boards if that did happen.

As mentioned above I'm looking forward to some new announcements. Sure it will be a great festival as always.

Thanks for the update :)

I'm gonna attend the Way Out West festival soon which is about the same size in terms of the number of bands being booked. They've had three cancellations so far and I think that's the highest number for them in their history. So I'd say that EOTR has been quite unfortunate. However, it's great that EOTR actually announce in time when there are changes in the line up. At some festivals they just wait until the last minute to admit that there have been cancellations.

I guess given the number of cancellations (and good point Geoff - given the ticket prices for the festival I imagine many acts have to be subsidised or optimistic), we (and the organisers) have to be grateful that there aren't any U2 size cancellations (no disrespect to the artistes who have had to pull out, and best wishes to them all)as they would be much harder to fill
