well this series has been a total shambles in terms of the rules and manipulation.

i think it's terrible that they had a sing off in the semi final. every other year, it has been down to the public vote at that stage. it's obvious that was done to get rid of mary and get cher to the final. the show always favours certain acts but it's never been as bad as this before. they've changed the rules as they went along, to get rid of whoever they wanted out. they only decided to have a sing off on saturday morning! so they were obviously worried that cher would get the least votes with mary second bottom, so decided to have a sing off and vote mary out.

haven't heard any rumours yet about who the acts will be singing with in the final. jeff brazier just said on this morning that he thinks cher might sing with cheryl cole.. that would really be the icing on the f**king cake for this series. if that did happen, cher would be at a massive advantage because all of cheryl's fans would vote for her. i could see the final revolving around cher, because she is the only act who has been in the bottom two and is obviously the least popular, they will be doing everything they can to get her more votes.

Rebecca 29%, Matt 25%, One Direction 19%, Cher 14%, Mary 13%

Supposedly the votes for tonight.

Bloody obvious that Cher was going through, Simon kept looking at Cheryl and smiling before he said.

Why did Djibril Cisse from Black Eyed Peas say there were 2 left and just mention Cher and Rebecca

Supposedly they are all picking their own winner's song this year

And Matt's is Biffy Clyro

The silent protest thing is a recording of John Cage's "4'33", which is 4 minutes and 33 seconds of silence.

Rebecca will win this I think. Her and Xtina should work well.

Robbie will ruin any chance one direction have, and Cher and Will.I.Am (or however the hell he puts it  ) will probably be one of the worst things ever shown on tv. Matt and Rhianna is a bit

The sad thing is after all the hard work they have done gradually increasing their popularity, something like this would have more impact on their popularity than anything they have done themselves. Heard on radio 5 that someone in american idol covered a kt tunstall song and the exposure resulted in big record sales.

Nah I'm not sure thats true. Biffy are probably one of the biggest rock bands in Britain at the moment. In festival terms, they are maybe only a year or two off headlining the biggest festivals I reckon. I'm not really sure if an X Factor cover necessarily equates to better sales of the original artists work generally, long term at least. Reasonably good example of this is when that wee George Sampson boy won BGT dancing to Mint Royale's remix of Singin in the Rain - it went to Number 1, but didnt leave any lasting impact on album sales.

Oh it has an effect, but not a long term one, not one that gives the original artist a higher profile (or sustained album sales), which is what pink_triangle was saying.

I think Mountains would have made an amazing winners single actually for all of the acts left in the competition, thinking about it. Oh and apparently this all has Biffy Clyro's approval - they could have stopped the song being used but didnt.

No way would biffy turn it down, I doubt they are doing it for a love of x factor and promoting manufactured/reality acts. A christmas number 1 will give them well deserved royalties and exposure. To refuse would be musical snobbery and cutting off your nose to spite your face.

IMO It's not musical snobbery, it's musical integrity. Although I doubt they're rich, I also doubt they can't afford their rent like some musicians. As for exposure, brilliant,], they might sell a few more singles and perhaps even a few more albums but they will have lost one of their songs as from now on in the eyes of the majority of the public it'll be "oh that song off X Factor" most people won't even know it's a Biffy song after it, they'll recon it's Matt's song.

In the end it's their choice and if they want the money then fair enough but I think they'll go down in alot of peoples estimations.

I think its worth mentioning that Biffy Clyro often contribute to the Live Lounge thing on Radio 1, and a CD is brought out each year of a selection of Live Lounge performances. Biffy have been on it covering Love Sex Magic (I think thats its name) by Ciara. I'm guessing they or the record company that employs them get a cut of the sales of that album, one way or another. It would be a bit hypocritical for them to turn round and get all touchy about X Factor using their music.

Or does the example of Love Sex Magic not count because its not 'good' music?
