philipsteak
I work in a hotel and the gems some people come out with are amazing. We are thinking of writing a book about them.
halfpint
You have to give a little lee-way. There's that whole leaving your brain at home when you go on holiday thing. Then there's quite often language or cultural differences. But even taking all those things into account, some people are just really f**king stupid
Steve P
This one goes back about 15 years now. I'd seen on the front page of one of the tabloids a picture of Mandella meeting the Spice Girls, and began ranting about how this could be considered front page news and why on earth was he meeting them anyway. One of the temps walked through and said "Of course it's front page news. The spice girls are shaking the hand of a criminal". The mind boggles

PeterD
When I mentioned to colleagues when they reformed that I had tickets to see The Specials, not one, not a single one of them had heard of the band. These are people who are aged between 30 and 35.

MrZigster
I've had a number of jobs that involve working with foreign tourists, who enjoy opportunities to practice their English. The one I always remember, is standing at the bottom of a staircase and being asked, "Do these stairs go up?" Still gives me chuckle after about 20 years that. Benj
I was at a party a few months ago and put The Clash on, my best friends younger brother trying to act "cool" said "I really love the clash".... but the singers got a f**king awful voice"......what a nob !! minute5072
and of course, there's the Florence fans at Glastonbury who were saying "I loved that new song called The Chain...." Is this a typical Florence fan? (it's a post here I spotted this morning...) Edited August 25, 2010 by minute5072

metallimuse
Driving through the countryside with a mate & our girlfriends when his from out of nowhere made the statement,"Sheep are so cute but pointless." My friend asked what she meant and she explained,"Well they are born and then they, like, live and then they die.Pointless." My girlfriend mentioned wool to which she burst out out laughing & said "Oh yeah".I then pointed out that their meat is pretty popular to which she stopped laughing & exclaimed,"You've eaten sheep?!?!" I replied she ate lamb shanks in the hotel last night and she replied in all honesty that she had no idea we ate sheep as "it doesn't say sheep on the label". I then asked her by that logic what exactly a sausage,Bacon, burger or a mince animal looked like.
philipsteak
Don't apologise, it cracked me up too. There was another time on 21st December when I mentioned seeing a calendar from New Zealand which of course said 'Longest Day'. She could understand how there was 12 hours difference but not 6 months.

jono_01
Is it just me or do other people on here encounter people who come out with the stupidest things... I had The Specials 30 year anniversary live album on yesterday and a girl who I work with came into my department. Im not saying that everyone should know who The Specials are but when asked by another work collegue if she liked The Specials her response was......"who?, never heard of them, sounds like rubbish to me,.....anyway, I like proper music.....like LADY GAGA"......she said this with absolute conviction and not a hint of sarcasm......f**king idiot ! omskus
Thats upsetting as i do actually really like Florence. I did think her cover of The Chain was pretty good, and its one of my favourite tunes of all time. Really don't want to be tarred with the same brush as the rest of them. Though in fairness, The Chain was released a very long time ago, before some of these people were born and is not massively well known by anyone who isnt over the age of 30. Apart from the formula one bit lol.
MrZigster
We were playing cards one night when one of our number asked if we had heard of a news story regarding a cult that had been raided by the police as they were reported to be about to attempt mass suicide. ME: "How were they going to do it?" HIM: "Do what?" ME: "Kill themselves" HIM (completely sincerely whilst nodding head): "Oh. Suicide." It helps if you know him. He's one of those people who always comes out with things like that. The only man I know who could make the word suicide funny. omskus
15-20 years or so before some of them were born. I mean how much did Neil know about, say, Vera Lynn when he was a teenager.

TBH, it wasn't so much them not knowing the song, but the fact they thought it was good. It was the most painful cover I think I've ever heard.
