Probably the weirdest thing I saw for sale in one of these ex-pat shops was Fairy Liquid. I understand people missing their favourite foods, but getting nostalgic for washing up liquid?

You just made my day remembering those! Whatever happened to toys in cereals? I personnally hold kelloggs responsible for my tubby days as a kid (I REALLY liked space jam, and there were ten trophies to collect, at eight years old eating eight bowls of coco pops on top of the rest of your food can make any stick thin kid into a porker, and I never got the last trophy dammit!).

Random story but I was on a date and we were walking through Soho round 2/3ish in the morning and we come across an imported sweet shop so we stood outside looking through the window making fun of the stuff they sell like Jelly Belly, Cherry Ripe, bacon flavoured gum, caramel covered bugs, the various pez characters etc. for a good 10/20 mins. The next time I saw her I gave her a present (I even bothered to wrap them) of 2 Cherry Ripes, she was very impressed until she ate one and it didn't even taste like cherry.

I've just found their website for the shop and now I want to go there again...

Cherry Ripes are great. My old housemate used to get his girlfriends mum in Oz to send them over which was when i first tried them. Was so happy when they started selling them here.
