Reading 2011 line up prediction

he is just a soundgarden fan boy! He has tried suggesting that soundgarden are just as deserving of a headline spot than what blink are. The reason Blink are headline worthy and soundgarden arent is because Blink appeal to THE CURRENT READING AND LEEDS CROWD! as most people who attend the festival grew up with blink. Most people who go to RnL DIDNT grow up with soundgarden.

they were okay, they didnt pull it off when compared to either a green day or offspring performance, they would've kicked ass ver it.

each to their own but for a band that arent meant to be great live i think they did well. When i said "they pulled it off" i meant that they were better than a lot of people expected and that they put on a decent headlining show.

Because I was trying to make you think, that becuase a bands ONCE sold a lot of albums doesn't mean they are headline material.

Like Jane's Addiction, Libertines, Limp Bizkit, Faith No More, Morrisey....

Can't be doing with Greenday. I accept they are popular but, I listened to some of their songs again after all the talk surrounding them, and theres just nothing to any of their music at all. In my opinion anyway. If they do play I certainly will be finding someone else to watch.

Anyway, Jamie T, anyone think he could headline the NME tent? He's easily popular enough.

I would say UK sales aren't as important overall. Plus Wiki doesn't tend to shjow all UK sales anyway. That being said, i said sales..... not Chart positions.

The 2 bolded statements were said by you... and i'm using them as a retort back to you.

It's not an opinion that SG COULD headline. It's fact. I'm not saying they will. I do in fact think they are more likely for Download. But it's clear that they COULD headline Reading. At very least Sub.

How is it possible to be big enough to headline Lollapalooza, and other European festivals but not R/L's? Every festival has a differenct way of booking things. R/Ls ALWAYS have a big reunion act play high up on the bill... have done for years. Irrespective of size etc. If a band are influential, or have somewhat of a history witht he festival... then they do tend to headline. Ie, Blink, The Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies etc.

As you say I can't get sales figures but the chart positions should show a true reflection that they haven't sold as much as most of the bands you listed. Grunge/Hard rock/metal albums all chart at their highest place and then fall out of the Top 40 completetly after a few weeks. Therefore if Soundgardens best 2 albums charted at 7 and 4, it is very very unlikely they were able to sustain such a long streak in the top 40 to be able to outsell or even come close to the likes of the Arctics, Manics and even Razorlight. Iron Maidens recent album been a prime example, charting at 4 and now 2 weeks later not even being in the top 40. I know there has been a lot of years since their albums have been released but they won't have sold as much as others mentioned.

And yeah R+L do have big reunions playing high up. BUT if there isn't any about then they won't, ala 06 and 09.

for the last time. They sold ALOT of records worldwide. I said worldwide to bein with. Second of all i've always maintained that Sales are not the height of all reasons for booking someone. By this logic Pixies would never have headlined. Why is it so hard to think that there is potential for them to headline? I'm not saying they will... just that they are a possibility.

My wishful thinking would include:

Friday - System of a Down

Saturday - The Strokes

Sunday - Foo Fighters

And also playing would like to see: MGMT, Biffy Clyro, The Offspring, The Hives & Soundgarden.

But I have a feeling Soundgarden & System will headline Download, but Reading is nearer .

I don't think it'd be unlikely for them to headline if they played but I really can't see it happening

It'd be a risky booking and I doubt FR would fight overly hard to get them above Download and Sonisphere, who I can imagine wanting them a lot and would probably go down better there

Cant believe people are saying Green Day shouldnt headline. Blinks performance compared to previous times ive seen Green Day was really lethargic and effortless. I love blink, dont get me wrong. But i did get the feeling they were received well just because they are Blink 182 rather than any spectacular performance. People who dont think Green Day would put on an amazing show will be eating their words this time next year i hope.

I think the main issue with GD isn't so much the quality of a potential performance, it's the fact they've been everywhere, they're output is frankly dreadful now and most are bored of them.
