This weeks NME.....

Is terrible, I only buy it once a year for the Leeds poster, I can't believe how bad this magazine has become, half the magazine seems to be a Libertines tribute, they don't even bother to review Blink 182 and the rest of the Main Stage (except Libertines, Arcade Fire and G n R).

The top 20 must sees of the weekend made me laugh, I only saw one of them (thank god), 18 of the must sees are from the NME Stage or the Festival Republic Stage (the FR ones will no doubt be playing the NME stage next year) plus there are no Main Stage must sees (how the f**k Weezer aren't in there I will never know).

Don't buy it, and if you must, just steal the poster ;)

I got it for the poster... and read the rest.

The whole top 20 sets thing was REALLY weird I thought, after their Arcade Fire review said how good they where and everything.

And by god did they lay into Axl and Guns N Roses. Proper harsh words said I thought.

And the Blink review... well that will be in Kerrang! next week, and they won't even mention Arcade Fire.

Its fair enough... NME readers aren't the Blink fan base, and Kerrang! readers will have never heard of Arcade Fire most of the time.

I don't read NME. I don't read any magazine anymore really unless something really take my fancy inside.

The point is, why buy a magazine that isn't aimed at you, and then bitch that it isn't aimed at you?

and also....

Why steal something you didn't pay for when someone going in and buying it will want it? It's just f**king rude.

in my defence it was the first day it's been out, it was in a whsmith down a high street where only old people live and there were about 40 copies of it. if it makes you feel better i'll go into smiths next tuesday evening just before it closes before the new issue goes on sale and update you on the fact that the copy i took the poster from is probably well and truly still sitting there

At the end of the day no-one can tell me how a performance was, i was there and i made my own mind up on the bands that i saw. They can tell me that Arcade Fire were 8/10 till the cows come home but it wont change my mind as they were 10/10 for me. My top 20 anyway:

1. Weezer

2. Arcade Fire

3. Libertines

4. QOTSA

5. Foals

6. Phoenix

7. Dizzee Rascal

8. Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.

9. Biffy Clyro

10. Gogol Bordello

11. Motion City Soundtrack

12. Modest Mouse

13. We Are Scientists

14. Wild Beasts

15. Two Door Cinema Club

16. Blink 182

17. The Maccabees

18. The Gaslight Anthem

19. Mystery Jets

20. Harlem

How on earth they have such an influence among us youngsters is really beyond me. I will often leaf through Q magazine due to it's fantastic production values, level of depth to reviews and previews whilst also being frank to bands weaknesses and strengths.

I liken NME to the Sun, a rag at best, and god only knows what at it's worst. They're not a Music institution more like an Idiots distraction. Just to back me up, the level of actual Journalism on both their website and in their magazine is frightening, both in terms of depth and quality.

The variety week in week out is not amazing either, Im pretty sure their editors think "God If only Oasis, The Libertines, Kings of Leon and Arctic Monkeys could be cloned until the end of time".

People bitch about the NME but is it really worse than any other major music magazine/website out there except maybe Q

Kerrang- Hayley Williams Weekly

Rolling Stone- "Music Ain't What It Used Ta Be In Maaaa Dayyy" + Zac Effron/Latest tween craze

Pitchfork- You've never heard of them?/Are they from Canada? Oh well I love them then.

DiS- Occasionally decent, largely shit.

Of course the review was going to be angled at the demographic that buy the magazine (people more interested in the topman ad's than the music section) just like every other magazine does and of course they're going to promote the bands they have a vested interest in, much like every other magazine does.

As for the Klaxons being the set of the weekend, this is clearly w*nk (though MoTNF is a cracking pop album)

Their Lib's review also infuriated me, how they even came close to comparing them with the genius that followed I will never know.
