Well I think (and hope) you'd get a warning first, but the person that the original comment was directed at seemed to suggest that he'd be having a fire no matter what security said and in that case I guess they'd do something stricter.

Red camp, 30ft from the wall parrelel to the waterslide tower.

I won't be going quietly I assure you, I'm prepared to fight to protest such silly rules if you're going to be a baby and kick out a responsible festival goer for having a safe and controlled campfire.

If you have a problem with the rules, take your childish protest up with Festival Republic and the local council. You are well aware of the rules, if you can't abide by them then you will be ejected from the site.

Feel free to, it's just as accomodating and cold on the streets of reading as it is on site on the sunday now, do you really think I give a shit?

One man? Try 20+, I camp with a large group of people, the majority of which are in agreement we should try have a small fire sunday.

So I'm supposed to have a days worth of heat and light taken away from me and think "Well I've got wednesday - saturday"

If your employer gives you a paycut, do you say "well at least i've still got my job". I highly doubt that.

If the festivals rules are getting increasingly stupid you should protest it.

You can feel free to lay down and let a festival you love be ruined by silly overprotectiveness but I don't intend to. Even if my protest is small at least it's something.

Not neccesarily, if enough people protested the fire ban they'd have to revoke it.

Unfortunately, not as many people understand how important the tradition of a campfire really is at a festival. It is an invitation to other festival goers it's a big sign saying "We are wide awake and looking for fun, come sit round our fire and have a beer random people" it's a beautiful thing, and festival republic want to destroy it man. You watch, step by step.

All in the name of health and safety?

But it's nothing to to with Festival Republic. It's Reading Council. This is why the rule only applys at Reading and not Leeds. Festival Republic can do f**k all except follow the council's guidelines so they can get a licence. No licence no festival. Failure to follow the rules put down aw the council equals no festival. Don't think they wouldn't shut the festival down. It very nearly happened with Leeds and it could happen again.

I missed having a fire on the last night, but we just went on a wander to keep ourselves occupied rather than sitting around in the cold. & it was really cold.

Managed to find a pretty big fire by the North of Henry's Gate which was nice to crowd around & socialize with some fellow campers from Purple but I did notice a few tent poles sticking out from the fire.

Bit annoyed the silent disco (in Red) was so busy on the last night as normally we just walked straight in.

What I was really annoyed about was security threatening to take my boom box off me as they said it was "generating a crowd". I was civilized to them & said that the crowd were in fact my campsite friends having a bit of a dance to "Break Stuff" & some liquid DnB & that it wasn't loud (I even checked with neighbours, most who had left, if it was too loud as it was the Sunday) but they still told me to turn it off & go to bed.

That was the buzzkill on Sunday for me.

They could take the council to court and protest the idiocy if they actually gave a shit, but apparently they don't. Maybe they wouldn't win but at least it'd show they cared enough about their following if they were to try.

You just have to look at how little effort has gone into this years lineup, it's just a poorly mashed together array of random bands with no real unique selling point. Just look at what lineups were like a few years ago, they flowed, they had huge acts. It just flits randomly about through genres, any good lineup has linearity, you wouldn't play a DJ set playing one genre and going to something completely different.

yes but your fun is different to other peoples fun.

fires would be allowed at all festivals if it wasnt for the delinquents in the last 15 years at festivals, didnt get this problem at festivals in the 60s/70s did you? if you give 99 people a gun the 100th will shoot someone.
