The thing with Biffy Clyro is that they have just hit the mainstream with their last two albums. The first three were awesome and I personally feel better than Puzzle and Only Revolutions, however the latter two have got an abundance of radio friendly singles on them that have propelled there popularity. They have always had a great live reputation and all that constant touring in the early years has paid off with an army of Die hard fans. I expect a new album in 2011, and like pink triangle has said Only Revolutions is still selling as their popularity increases and that has been out best part of 11 months. I'd expect that on the release of their next album they will headline british festivals. Playing under bands like Muse and Linkin Park has only enhanced their reputation.

The problem with Lost Prophets is that their big album was their debut and everything else after that hasn't been as good. You can't headline a festival on the back of one album, and since their material hasn't stayed consitently good with their subsequent releases they never made that step up from high middle size band up to big band. Their lack of radio friendly single in recent years means their popularity has never increased a vast amount, yet they remain a good live act.

Biffy have a big back catalogue and in the last two releases have hit out raido friendly singles, because they have released their best recieved albums as their fourth and fifth they are in a much better position to make the step up.

I'm not saying its impossible for Lost Prophets to get to headlinging status, I just think it is very unlikely. There has to be two very good albums that are recieved well and they have to keep to a certain style of sound.

It would possibly be easier if they formed a different band, with similar members and produced three solid albums than them getting their on the success of Lost Prophets.

They have a good back catalogue of songs but Ian Watkins voice isnt strong enough to carry a headline set, I was watching Reading on tv and certain songs he practically had the crowd singing most of some songs. Plus he doesnt take what he's doing seriously enough for me and acts like a bit of a twat on stage at festivals, its ok when your a Blink 182 type of band but they're not.

If they are gonna headline it'll take them 2 good albums 1 that blows up and then they'll starting headlining to promote upcoming release of the one after. Remember Headliners are booked almost a year in advance, which is why System Of A Down won't headline next year as they need to be going right now as we learnt from Blink & Rage and that's why it'll take 2 albums.

Start something sent them big....It was a huge record after a hit and miss first record which showed great promise and some brilliant tracks.

Liberation transmission was them looking more to the american market when they should have been building on top of what they did with start something. It was alright but it took away all their momentum

They lost their way and their latest album is terrible.

They need to realise they need to go back to the drawing board for the next album and start again.

They also need to drop the Mega Lolz crap.......its terrible

Liberation Transmission was the album that sent them to the forefront of public attention and the success put them on their first arena tour. I suppose you could say Start Something got them noticed, but LT put them on their first arena tour. They had to make LT to become big. If they'd made another record like SS, I very much doubt they'd be in the position they are now.

Took them years to make the new album then it totally bombed critically and comercially. That was on the back of them being big enough to play arena's and sell quite a few tickets in them too. Even after Start Something they were doing 2 nights at the Apollo etc but they struggled to even sell out one with this new album. They have bombed down the pecking order a long long way.

They can come back from it but the next album will have to be good and suceed comercially or they will keep dropping down the lineup and reach a position where they can never come back (Feeder and Travis spring to mind). One more poor selling album and they will probably be struggling to find a big label that will get them the airplay they'd need to get back to the level they were before nevermind the next step up to sub/headline.

No it wasn't. You obviously think Liberation Transmission was their debut. Liberation Transmission was the record that sent them big and that was their third record.

I don't think either of them (LP/BC) will be given any higher slots at R&L or anywhere else other than DL for a while. Quite simply LP appear to be losing popularity rather than gaining it, and I think BC would need at least two more high quality albums before headlining, although V could be an option for headlining if they go against their normal crowd.

What exactly is their sound? I think the main reason i've never been able to like lostprophets is they will jump on any bandwagon going. I have no problem with bands "selling out" (bullshit term) to make money, but lp took the biscuit! They went from nu metal to striving to be american to emo, a few catchy throwaway tunes, but nothing that sounds like it has any meaning.

i personally think they deserve to sub headline.

if Paramore can sub headline then Lostprophets certainly can. especially as i think Lostprophets are more of a Reading band than Paramore.

a few more reasons:

*they always draw a huge crowd at the festival

* 4 albums now.... one went No.1, and two top 5.

* apparently have a "10 years of..." album coming out end of the year... will possibly make people realise how many hits they have e.g. Last Train, Shinobi, End of the world etc etc

* anthemic.. easy songs to sing along to

* have been on a small independant record label (visible noise) for all four albums... not many other bands can achieve the success they have had on such a small label. apparently there contract with VN has just ended so will be interesting to see if they can be more successful on a major label with more money and marketing.

* huge tour this year... 18 date tour of The Betrayed... which if u add up the capacity of each venue comes to 45,000+, which is the same as 4/5 arena shows. all shows sold out.

* played a date at Cardiff Arena this year.. sold out 7,500

*have played the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff twice this year (not headlining their own gigs obviously but before Rugby games etc.)70,000 people.

* have had more chart success than other bands higher up on the line up such as Weezer.. their latest album charted at 49 in the UK where as LP latest reached No.3.

* a few people on here have said their latest album was not recieved well by critics.. however it was one of their most well recieved albums... NME 7/10, Q Magazine 4/5, Rock Sound 8/10, The Sun 4/5.

* headlined Download Festvial

* recent interviews suggest they are planning an arena tour for 2011.

* were offerd sub in 2007, also a recent interview revealed they were offered a higher position this year but on a different day but wanted to play on the same day as Guns N Roses and QOTSA. guessing it was probably the Blink day.

* yes Ian is not the strongest singer in the World. i personally think he's a bit hit and miss... at a start of a tour he seems very strong vocally, then after say 10 shows it gets a bit crackily. howver he is a stronger singer than people such as Tom from Blink and Jared Leto.

just a few reasons why i think they can at least sub headline. i think it will depend greatly on the reception of the next album / 10 years of album... which will hopefully do well with the backing of a major record label. and basically if paramore were given a chance to sub, i think Lostprophets more than deserve a chance to sub as they love this festival and have drawn huge crowds everytime they've played. one person i heard at Leeds this year sumd it up for me "Lostprophets and Paramore should have swapped positions".
