thanks to 6music reminding me of this the other day (lost long ago from my record collection), I'm wondering if this counts as the original gypsy punk, from 40 years ago...?

One of my favourites off that Whistle Test DVD. Madness!!

And Neil, David Byrne and St Vincents new album is streaming online now. Havent heard it yet but will give it a listen later. Supposed to be great and a grower too which is always good.

Single is pretty sweet. Proper pop music.

I like it. Its different. Looking forward to hearing the album later.

nah, it's defo not different. It sounds like an awful lot of Byrne's output from the last 10-15 years.

I'm still actually trying to decide if it's a re-working of an older Byrne number - I don't think it is really (tho it might be, I don't know either way at the mo), but it sounds so familiar that it could be.

I'm not familiar with his stuff over the last 10-15 years really. Different to usual "pop" music I meant though.

the word(s) to use for Byrne's more recent style is Americana, or American Folk Music (a term he's used himself).

It's done very cleverly by Byrne, but overall it's a very limited musical style without much range or variety. I defo couldn't stand listening to loads of it.

Dylan's gone down a similar route with a sort of Cajun twist to it.

I really liked this tune when I heard it on 6 Music, it's really catchy in a sort of weird, off kilter kind of way.

The album doesn't really do much to me though, right now the songs are sounding a bit samey but I'll persevere with it :)
