The Nal
Tommy, without Pete, is unthinkable I saw it last week, great gig. But not The Who obviously. Roger approached it as a fan of the band and as the album where he found his voice for The Who. In other related rock new, L.A. Woman by The Doors is being released a 2 CD set later in the year. Alt takes of songs, studio chatter etc. Great for Doors nerds. The "whos idea was it to put thunder on Riders?" argument finally settled too. It was Jim. swede
Just been to see Roger Daltry touring the complete performance of Tommy. Superb. Great band including Pete Townsend's younger brother (Pete's now deaf and doesn't tour). Great stage presence and what a wonderful body of music. A 10 out of 10 on our Glasto scale. Can't recommend it highly enough. Saw it myself and it was brilliant. Pete does still tour as he's said The Who are touring Quadrophenia next year, its just that it was Daltreys idea to tour Tommy but Pete wasnt up for it but gave him his blessing to do it by himself. sifi
The Who should be a band that I love, but they do absolutely nothing for me. Apart from Substitute, and possibly the Real Me. They seem very two dimensional compared to Zeppelin. Edited August 4, 2011 by sifi

I love Zep and have also enjoyed seeing Percy in various other collaborations but The Who produced some great anthems and some spectacular live shows. I appreciate that this is a very old performance at Woodstock but it was a classic.

Some of Townshends lyrics/themes etc, although wacky, are timeless. And as a live band, their telepathy on stage was second to none. This performance below was so good, it showed up the Stones who didn't release this concert for 30 years as a result. Also because the Stones were totally off their tits. Brian Jones and Keef in particular were a disaster. And now ladies & gentlemen, dig The Who. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1ku7QNRudg Edited August 4, 2011 by The Nal
sifi
No, not buying it. Dunno what it is. Don't have the depth or the nuances of Zeppelin. And Daltery is too small to be a classic rock front-man. It's nowt to do with pedalo Pete either. It's all about the material, I guess. Just doesn't work for me. Lord knows I've tried, but those clips don't do it, the Live Woodstock performance doesn't do it, and all that Pinball Tommy Quadrophenia concept stuff doesn't do it for me. They excite me about as much as Deep Purple. Edited August 4, 2011 by sifi
swede
The Who , Isle of Wight 2004, best thing I will ever see in my life, never to be topped. I was only 22 at the time, grown men where hugging and a few were shedding tears of joy by the time they had finished, absolutely mind blowing performance that night. sifi
I've tried all sorts by them. I've been played all sorts of albums by them. If that's the one with them in bath full of beans etc, I've been played it, and it didn't grab me at all. Just not soulful enough, I suppose. Havent tried hard enough it seems. Listen to "I Can See For Miles" immediately to have your musical wheels balanced. Theyre tracking WAY off at the moment Si. Tommy & Quad arent the first place I'd go either. Neither are as accessible as "Who's Next". Ive zero time for Dylan though so whoamItotalk. As you were soldier. Theyre tracking WAY off at the moment Si I have listened to it, many times. I know the song. I know most of their big numbers, I borrowed Who's Next and Who's Better Who's Best and I just don't rate them. Not My Generation, not Magic Bus, Not Won't Get Fooled Again, not The Kids are Alright. None of it. Other than the Real Me and Substitute. Sorry. And I have hate "Who are You". What a load of old nads that is. There's nothing there that I think you can compare to Stairway, or Kashmir, or Lemon Song. They aren't fit to clean up Bonzo's puke after he's choked on it. Ed209
Don't worry Sifi, you're not alone. I respect The Who for their role in Rock, but apart from a few tunes, they don't really excite me either.

sifi
I don't know Eminence Front, I have to say. I do know You Better You Bet, and it didn't work for me. I know you mean well, but it's something that I have tried on and off to get into for more than twenty years now - chances are it's not going to happen. As Ed209 says, I respect them for their roll in rock. It's not them. It's me!

The Nal
I do know You Better You Bet, and it didn't work for me. As it shouldn't. Dodgy era Who. No Keith Moon for a start. Townshend on the smack.....

sifi
Oh - I remembered another one. Baba O'Reilly is a decent enough track.
Wooderson
I don't know Eminence Front, I have to say. I was kidding about YBYBYB - not about Eminence Front. It. Is. Badass. Honestly though, im in a pub with my mates on a nice evening. DJ plays "Can't Explain", "The Seeker", "Going Mobile", "Wizard"... I'm a happy boy. Took me a long time to get into them admittedly. But I do like them a lot. "Who Are You" at Glasters sounded absolutely facking superb guv.
sifi
I just get vivid images of Beefy Botham and Boring Bill Beaumont pretending to look at the camera monitors from funny angles whilst trying to ascertain if it really is Daley Thomson on the screen wearing a tu-tu. The Nal
"SuperHeavy". A supergroup consisting of Mick Jagger, Dave Stewart, Joss Stone, Damian Marley and A. R. Rahman. Personally, I think Jagger is only there to try get into Joss Stones pants. Shes looking well in fairness to Mick. sifi
I'd suggest 'soulful' is the last thing it tried to be Zep grooved. The Who has none of that finese (so). Groove is important to me.
