just listening to P.U.L.S.E for first time in ages. This version of comfortably numb, while lacking the emotion of Waters vocals, does have imo Gilmour's finest moment on it and one of the greatest guitar solos i've ever heard. Just posting it for the hell of it, because ... well ... why the f**k not. Its just that good.

Gilmour = Legend of Music

and you don't believe his reasons why?

I do. I still don't think those are good enough reasons to in part support this industry - and it is an industry - with his money.

Were you not disappointed a bit when you found out that he'd been spending his money on pictures of child abuse, regardless of his motives?

If one of my music heros did that, I'd be a bit pissed off.

You cant make an omelette without breaking a few eggs. He was genuinely trying to help believe it or not. And made a very silly mistake.

I agree.

And if that was one of my musical idols, I'd be a bit concerned, frustrated and disappointed about the whole business.

He supported that industry. Do we know how much money he handed over to the scumbags involved?

he wasn't supporting the industry.. and it's not much of a reason to call him a paedo.. (or a pedalo?)

He paid money, didn't he? Isn't that kinda supporting the industry?

Pedalo is a word that was used on here to describe peadophiles ages ago.

it was probably whatever fee was needed... not much I'd guess

'supporting the industry' is stretching the definition of support really

why would you be concerned or frustrated if you believed the reason?

From the limited work I did on that operation, the numbers that people were spending on those sites as one-off payments were sometimes in the hundreds of pounds.

Anyway, this is academic. As I said some weeks ago, it's not the reason I dislike the Who.

just expressing my disappointment that even intelligent people use that type of language

It is - or was - a common term used on this board, and I've been taught that in order to maximise understanding, one should use the venacular commonly used amongst those you are addressing.

Apologies if it offended you.

Re : Jagger is being small. I think RD's problem here is that PT is really tall. And when he did his windmill thing it made RD look like, well, a small person.

I don't get it..? What's wrong with making a little joke that Pete Townsend is a peado? The guy was caught looking at child pornography, regardless of motive thats wrong and stupid. If i want to do some research into domestic abuse i dont start hitting my missus. Think a little joke about him being a peado is totally fine, even if it's not factually accurate.

And also what's wrong with the word pedalo? Do peado's find it offensive?

that's the bit I don't like. People get used to calling him a paedo, eventually that's how some who know nothing about the facts, will perceive him

Whereas with my expression, you'd think he was a boating-lake enthusiast :)

just by the by...

when I was a kid, the word was pronounced pedalo, with the emphasis on the da (Italian style)... now it seems to be pedalo

Its pedalo.

is it an Italian word?

"Probably the earliest reference to a paddleboat (pedalo) can be found in drawings by Leonardo da Vinci where he depicts a paddle powered craft driven by two pedals".

So maybe yeah. When you were a kid it was obviously closer to the time Da Vinci was alive, as any time between his death and the time of posting is, so maybe his Italian influence has waned since then?

Bring back Da Vinci!

I still pronounce it like ped-hallo, but I don't tend to use it in conversation. If I was passing a boating lake and saw a pedalo, that's how I'd pronounce it.

So, I don't read the NME. I don't like the NME. They have to have a collection of the worst f**king journalists who've ever committed ink to paper. Just shite. All of them. To a person.

They claim they’re “promoting new bands” yet they give a headline every time Noel Gallagher goes for a pint of milk or something. Yes, 44 year old Noel Gallagher of Oasis, who were “new” in 1994.

I’ve been wondering/worrying about David Bowie recently. Rumour is that he is dying. He doesn’t look well. That’s clear. I do know that. My local barber is “Bowie” in a Bowie tribute act and is an uber uber Bowie geek (forums, fan clubs etc). He tells me its pretty much a given that Bowie is on the way out. Hes very sick and wont be touring again. Ive read this from loads of places too but the barber trip made me think and read more about it. He didn’t just have a serious heart attack in 2004, he has serious degenerative heart disease and the heart attack was a lucky escape.

Anyway, I went on the NME website just there for the first time in ages and saw “an open letter to David Bowie” by a journo named Tim Chester. “Great, lets read that” I thought. :)

f**king lazy illiterate shit! If you’re going to write an open letter to one of the greatest musicians of all time which is going to be read by tens of thousands of people (and maybe Bowie himself) at least put some f**king effort into it before you type. You're f**king shit. I know the average age of an NME reader is quite young but f**k off! People can read. People can hold their attention for longer than ten words at a time.

NO research or mention into the fact that Bowie is very sick. NO real mention of his contribution to music apart from general revisionist history which reads like something you'd read in the "letters to the editor about Katie Price" section of Hello magazine, NO depth of knowledge in the article whatsoever and the point of the article seems to be that he wants to tick boxes on the "yep seen him" gig sheet.

Heres his main pitch at Bowie (I wont even mention the "We need you because X Factor is starting soon" bit) - "And even if you came back with another ‘Reality’ or ‘Heathen’ – sturdy, reliable rock with a Bowie twist – that would be OK." Way to get Bowies creative juices flowing there shithead. Basically saying "release a bog standard Bowie album will you?".

Also, "sturdy, reliable rock"? Bowie? Has this f**king chancer even listened to Bowie before? Hes reliable because hes a f**king genius. The Ziggy album was reliable too. Because its great. So is Hunky Dory, Station to Station, Aladdin Sane, Low etc. The "non reliable stuff" like Earthling is the stuff the NME and lots of others, take the piss out of him for. Sometimes with good reason.

Pity. Would've liked to see David Hepworth or Mark Ellen at Word Magazine, Chris Hunt at Uncut or David Fricke at Rolling Stone write "an open letter to David Bowie". Or most of the posters on Efestivals for that matter. They/We would have done a better job in 15 minutes than this (presumably) apprentice binman turned "journo" did for his employer, an internationally distributed music paper.

Rant over. Need lunch after reading that f**king shit.

Thats journo is just some young rookie turk thats never seen Bowie play live and hasnt a clue basically. He's seen the reformed Libertines and the KoL a few times though. Just by way of balance.

Also you should write to the NME with that reposte. That worthless hack should be fired immediately as a result by way of his words being deemed insulting to the human race.

OK done, Ill post it under the story under Vlad Dracul III, my Facebook persona.

He saw The Who when John Entwistle was doing 5 minute solos

which he never did

Oh I only touched on his idiotic ramblings, only touched on it. A f**kwit.

I love overreacting on a comedically unnecessary level to trivial internet articles. :)

By the way, Tim Chester is deputy editor of the NME. A cretin.

Thought it post Tom Waits new single in here. New album out October 25th. 16 tracks! :D

Good stuff. Id say hes gone with the most accessible tune first. Im sure there'll be one or two ballads and then 10 tunes with frying pans for drums etc

How f**king heavy is this?

Link Wray - The Rumble. Live video from 74.

I want to live in the sound he makes from 1m 30 - 1m 45. A song so good, it made Jimmy Page play air guitar to it.

Wolfgangs Vault now adding great quality video footage to the site. All of the Pistols Winterland gig, Van Morrison, Skynyrd, Grateful Dead, AC/DC, Allman Brothers, Bob Marley, Muddy Waters. List is endless! :)
