the birth of punk and heavy metal and god knows what else.. right before your eyes

It really was wasn't it? Power chords, the attitude, that swagger, poking holes in the amp etc. Unreal.

Waits by the way, his "teaser" for the new album. Absolute mad genius. His two sons in the car at the end too. New stuff sounds great.

Pink Floyd night on BBC 4 tonight.

- The Pink Floyd Story - Which Ones Pink. Superb documentary on the band. Best I've seen. The definitive.

- Pink Floyd Miscellany. Vids and clips etc from their career.

- Live in Pompeii. Great gig from post Meddle and pre Dark Side documentary clips littered in with Gilmour and Waters stoned off their chops throughout.

A must if you haven't seen any of them. Friday night sorted! :dancing:

On Monday EMI will launch the 'Why Pink Floyd?' remasters and collectors edition by recreating the legendary Pink Floyd ŒAnimals' sleeve and floating the Pink Floyd Pig above Battersea Power Station. This will be the first time in 35 years that the Pink Floyd Pig will fly again above the iconic London landmark.

Working together with Battersea Power Station and the inflatable specialists, Air Artists, creators of all the Pink Floyd inflatables since 1976, EMI Music have arranged for the Pink Floyd Pig to float above Battersea Power Station throughout the day on Monday 26 September.

Differing from the original 1976 floatation, the 2011 event will see the Pig fly at the north end of Battersea Power Station next to the river. Sadly, two weeks prior to the event the original neoprene glued pig was officially declared not airworthy and a brand new high frequency welded PVC replica Pink Floyd Pig has been made for the occasion.

Unfortunately, the remaining members of Pink Floyd will not be able to attend the event.

I suppose everyone is allowed to retire at some time and live the comfortable life on their royalties but shame they can't even turn up for a personal appearance at their new cash cow/pig.

Huge rumours of an impending Pink Floyd tour amongst the journo/industry crowd at the premiere of that U2 documentary last night.

Doesn't seem like 20 years ago to the day (well tomorrow) when Nevermind was released. Wasn't a huge Nirvana fan apart from Nevermind, but I clearly remember listening to it for the first time with my brother from start to finish and thinking it was damn good. We were into Metallica and Guns n Roses at the time, who had released nicely polished albums in the Black Album and Use Your Illusion, but Nirvana sounded dirty, raw and dangerous.

Interestingly, the Black Album, Use Your Illusion, Nevermind, Cypress Hill, Blue Lines, Ten, Trompe Le Monde, Screamadelica, Blood Sugar Sex Magik and Death Certificate were all released within about 10 weeks of each other, 20 years ago.

What time is X Factor on tomorrow?

Think this was the first time I heard of them.

And this is just rockin'.

What would 44 year old Cobain be doing in 2011?

Also if anyone is interested in Lead Belly, I found an original Life Magazine article from 1937 called "Lead Belly - Bad Nigger Makes Good Minstrel" :O . Interesting read.

I'd actually go as far to say its possibly my favourite Floyd album. Its certainly the one I return to most often. Its fucking dark, broody, and totally captivating. Nothing else sounds like it. They were all at the top of their game, especially Gilmour who's guitar work is utterly sublime.

In incredible yeah. Its a is a slow burning, scathing, teeth gritting attack on society. The relations in the band weren't great then either which adds to the dark nature of it.

And you're right, Gilmour has some really beautiful guitar moments on it.

Will be listening to Animals when I get home......

If anyone is interested in what the new Metallica/Lou Reed collaboration album sounds like, check out below.

But I'd advise you to be ready to cup your ears........ Its THAT fucking bad.

Well, at one time, you've got it, and then you lose it, and it's gone forever. All walks of life: George Best, for example. Had it, lost it. Or David Bowie, or Lou Reed.

Lou Reed, some of his solo stuff's not bad

No, it's not bad, but it's not great either. And in your heart you kind of know that although it sounds all right, it's actually just shite.
