I've had a quick look about on the weather sites and maybe my vibe is slightly out of focus...

Accuweather is currently positive apart from wednesday (only upto friday at mo)

TWO is not looking too good at all, ok for the start then rain on fri,sat and sun.... :O

Bottom line is it's still too far off to call...

That's not true though. Firstly "washout" for me is an extreme situation - a medium sized shower for a decent length of time will make it wet underfoot and require wellies, but wouldnt necessarily mean a washout a la 2005.

Secondly it depends on how long it rains for, a short sharp burst of heavy rain would be better than continuous light showers during the day.

Thirdly with a bit of sun things can change, if hypothetically it rained a lot on Weds/Thurs, with a bit of sun if it was dry until Saturday late afternoon things underfoot would be looking okay again.

Like I said, there's too much black and white here when by the sounds of it we'll get a fairly middling shade of grey.

Does anyone know how the drainage system on site works exactly? People are referring back to 1997 and how it rained in the week coming up to glastonbury, but considering how much they have spent on drainage, surely it would be a lot better now if that were to happen this year?

If I remember right, in 2008 it rained pretty much constantly on the Thursday, and the site got pretty muddy at that point. But by friday morning, wellys were not needed for most of the site

Comment on black and white is 100% true. People seem to think that if it rains a bit it will be automatically be a washout (have they been reading the Daily Mail?). Remember 2005? The average rainfall for the whole of June fell in one morning and the site still recovered!

Basically it needs to rain for weeks before the festival starts for a mudbath and that quite clearly hasn't been happening (and then some). Plus as has been pointed out the drainage has been improved.

It may rain a bit but it would have to start sh1tting it down from now until the start of the festival to produce more than the occasional underfoot squidge (ala 2008).

I disagree with that, if anyone remembers 2007 it rained for the week building up to it and it pissed it down for most of the fest (bar the Marley Brothers set) and there were rivers of mud running through the site. There is only so much water the ground can absorb!

I think wellies will be most likely needed, unless we have plenty of sunshine, no rain and the ground gets baked. As has been said, that many wellies on the farm will lead to things being pretty squidgy even with a bit of rain. I remember in 2009 the weather wasnt that bad and I wore wellies for most of the festival.

Also wellies cover you - if it starts raining around the stages early evening, if you've already got wellies on it saves you from having to go back to the tent to change shoes and thus missing a great band.

However, that doesnt mean a washout. A washout is something entirely different.

It's absolutely lovely here in Bath today so I'm guessing it's the same in pilton.

Hasn't rained here since Wednesday and I'm pretty sure we've been forecast it?

Personally I think we're going to get lucky with the weather again this year and I suggest you all believe me :)
