The fact is it's Isreal. The kids feel they are responding to the deaths of two soldiers, which is a sorry state of affairs in itself.

Also in answer to your fist question, reverse. I'm not going to agree that this response is acceptable until the kids are circled around the car, even then there's a few stages of action before mowing him down.
