So is social housing to be used to help people in need or prop up people and their decendents for life regardless of need?

Why do I have to work to get everything uet others equally capable get a free ride for life ?

The costs of private housing are set by the govt, via the planning rules they operate and the supply of houses those rules bring about.

For at least 30 years (if not longer - my memories are limited by my lifespan) the govt has been ensuring the value of private houses have an inflation rate above the rate of 'normal' inflation, and by doing so ensure that (proportionately) fewer and fewer people are able to own a house privately*.

(there's been one thing which has interrupted this process, the sale of the council housing stocks - but that was something which ultimately has ensured that the trend has continued and not reversed).

So, with the govt very deliberately operating housing to the benefit of the richest, what are people meant to fo? Live in cardboard boxes? If so, is outside your house OK for them to do it - or are you a nimby that says the right things while ensuring it becomes less and less possible for people to actually follow thru on your words? ;)

If this is the case then making it a requirement is unlikely to hurt people... Moaning over nothing ?

what are you failing to understand about the differences between choice and compulsion? ;)

Are you compelled to give up your home against your will? Do you think it would be right if you were?

Then why do you think it's OK for others?

EMA came in after my time... I think EMA is the single most stupid thing I have ever seen given out...

While from one angle I agree it's daft....

But from the angle of reality it's far cheaper financially than those people being on the dole because there's no jobs for them, and far cheaper politically than the destruction of the UK's labour market being fully revealed.

The cuts are revealed accidentally:

http://www.moneymarketing.co.uk/politics/spending-review-gaffe-reveals-490000-public-sector-job-cuts/1020467.article

The coalition expects 490,000 public sector job cuts by 2014-15 as a result of the spending cuts, Treasury Chief Secretary Danny Alexander has accidentally disclosed.

Alexander was photographed with two pages of report, set to be unveiled tomorrow, as he left the Treasury building.

It also calls for employers to strike deals to cut hours in order to lower the levels of redundancies, which has been forecast by the Office of Budget Responsibility.

The document also claims the overall public sector pay has been generous, with pay packages four times as high as for those in the private sector. It says the two-year freeze put in place for all but the lowest paid - will reduce the job losses.

It says the Government plans to mitigate the impact of redundancies by creating improved conditions for private sector growth. The Government hopes that the private sector will take the slack in the labour market caused by public sector job losses.

I happened to stumble across the fact that carbon capture and storage (CCS) - which is meant to be Britain's saviour from greenhouse gases - will actually use 25% of the power generated by a power station, making coal and CCS an extremely expensive option for power generation. ;)

I agreed with the cut... Just disagreed with the implementation... Do keep up... Don't get all boiled up... Life is too short B)

yet your alternative implementation wouldn't be a cut but a greater govt expense,k as has been pointed out to you endlessly.

Simple fact: those earning £44k+ are already earning more than double the median average.

This means that they are already hugely privileged and not in anywhere as much need as the majority that earn less than half of what they do.

As you think those earning more than double the median average are entitled to benefits paid for by the majority of the country who are earning less than half of what they do, please remind me again of why you think it's such a bad thing for there to be a housing safety net of council housing.:lol::lol:

So that's two Treasury Chief Secretary's that the coalition has now lost - that's a sacking offence.

Will they sack him? of course not. It's one rule for some, and another rule for others (and I bet they won't be fining MPs £50 for any false expenses claims they make either, genuine error or not. Surprise surprise ;)).

Yep, we're all in this together.:lol:

PS: the CBI say that one public sector job equals two private sector jobs - so that's 1.5M jobs to go.
