So they are touring next year, but will they be at Download?

IF they are would it be as Tool or APC as they're both touring next year, anyone else excited at even the idea of Tool being back in the UK :)

If Tool do finally return to the UK whatever festival/show they play I AM THERE 100%. My favourite band that I've yet to see live. They are just so good! They played DL in 06, so maybe soni is slightly more likely. Tho I asked Andy Copping about whether he'd rebook them and he replied, "everyone loves a bit of tool".

...I shouldn't be but I'm excited already.

I was pretty sure they would end up as one of the Sonisphere headliners this year after the recent Twitter comments by them and this has made me more convinced, they are a band who would sell a lot of tickets in the same way Rammstein did last year.

It would be good coup whichever festival gets them though they would probably be wasted on the average R&L crowd fan these days who would proably give Tool the wide berth and descend on the NME tent to watch Florence and the Machines or Mumford and Sons or some shite like that instead.

Well NIN don't tour anymore, so maybe they can rob their fame? :P

If the other two headliners are Tool and Soundgarden I would be extremely happy. I'm expecting one or the other and Paramore now tbh. The more i read about that f**king Paramore rumour the more believable it is.

Wrong. Tool headlined Download (which is significantly bigger than Soni)in 06, they could only headline and in fact would, rightly, accept nothing less. They haven't toured in the U.K. for years, and would be a massive coup for DL/Soni, though personally I hope they do their own shows so

I can see them properly. Reading these days seems unlikely to be right for them - most people at R/L will have never heard of them.

Headliners don't come any bigger than AC/DC although the other 4 mentioned were all worthy of their place, as for Biffy at Sonisphere they are probably at the height of their popularity on the back of the last arena tour at the moment and probably due a headline spot. Only problem is Soni will probably be invaded by Jocks for the day at least.

Im not slagging TOOL but i don't think they are a headline act for 2011

I would be upset if a band like 'tool' are given the classic rock sunday headline slot.

I wouldnt bother to much if they headline 2nd stage

Classic rock sunday is what it says on the tin

Surely the likes of OZZY,RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS,WHITESNAKE OR SCORPIONS are a better bet

I also hope that Rob Zombie headlines the 2nd stage on the Friday so i dont need to witnness Linkin Park

It's not even a debate. I've been going to gigs for over half a decade now, and other than download areosmith have graced these shores once (for hyde park calling one year iirc), and ac/dc had done a tour, which sold out in ridiculous time. Throw this in with the fact that they are two of the biggest bands in the world, maiden have played tours and festival dates fairly regularly, and rammstein whilst only being one the festival circuit in 2010, had also completed a tour.

Wasn't Maiden's previous festival show Reading 2005? Although yeah, they do tour pretty regularly.

And I didn't compare to AC/DC, I compared to RATM.

The headlined before their hiatus, and have grown in popularity since. And have far more quality than all the potential classic rock headliners you've mentioned. Ozzy's got a very hit-and-miss rep live, the Chilis suck now (reading 07 anyone?), Whitesnake have always sucked (and headlined recently), and Scorpions aren't big enough to headline.

Totally agree with most of this. I was actually Reading in 2007 and I can absolutely confirm RHCP were dreadful on that performance. Perhaps they may have improved by now though, who knows!?

However, Whitesnake are awesome. And should have headlined in 2009 over whodoyouwhatsit... them that did headline.... Def Leppard! That's the one! ;)
