//ross
Last night my flatmate ended up in a terrible club in Glasgow (I shall not name it as it makes me feel a little ill) and decided to put his lovely expensive pea coat in the cloakroom for the 50p above average cost of £1.50. 3 hours later when he came to collect it, he was told by the attendant that it looked like they must have either lost it or given it away to someone else as it wasn't there, and who then pointed to a sign that removed them of any responsibility for such an event. After arguing for half an hour, my flatmate was rather forcefully ejected by a bouncer for a cold walk home. I don't know about anyone else but I think this is completely ridiculous, and from my limited knowledge of commercial law, these signs have no legal basis what so ever when you're paying for a service, especially when it comes to negligence (which this definitely was). My flatmate wrote a long and politely forceful email to the management company this morning asking for either a new coat or to be reinbursed, but we think they'll probably spin the same no liability line. Does anyone have any legal advice regarding this kind of thing? I've been told a similar story was recently on watchdog but can't find anything about it.

LusciousLucy
Shame the club wasnt in London as you might have had a chance of getting it back as it could have been THIS SO CALLED ARTIST who took it! Saw his featured on the Culture Show special on Friday. A very strange deed indeed!
Pogues Mcgogues
Keep on pestering, write to them, email them, phone them, etc etc. I dunno if there's anyone you can speak to and get advice off for these sort of things right enough. But definatily make an effort with it. Sorry, your mate should. I've never heard of Tattoo, I must be out the loop! I'd recommend your mate to start going to decent places in Glasgow (because there's loads, I never understand why folk go to shit ones). sifi
Go to your local citizen's advice, I'd say. If they are liable, you'll be able to go through the small claims court.

t8yman
I like that. I never use a cloakroom, £2 for somewhere to shove your coat is a rip off so I don't take a coat with me to a club/gig. rachbon
i'd be raging if this happened to me and would definitely keep pestering them until they did something about it. the cloakroom people in the flying duck can never find my coat and once i had to go in the cloakroom myself and spent ages looking for it. i always get it back eventually but if they lost my fur coat i'd go a bit mental.
