Janesays
Only seen Friendly Fires once before but they blew me away with their live show...Would like to see Chemical Brothers but think I might be a bit bored after a while. The Subways are always a fantastic festival band and I am very curious to see what all the fuss is about from gypsy band Gogol Bodello. Elbow are just Elbow (fantastich!) and for those who prefer the heavier stuff, be sure to check out Norweigan band Kvelertak!
edfirth
Elbow bored me live The Chemical Brothers are brilliant live though, and their new light show is stunning Plus, Kvelertak and Flogging Molly- Will definitely watch if I have time The Subways- Really improved live act Gogol Bordello- A good laugh live but not sure they have the back catalogue for a long set
Operator
Rumours propose that portishead will be playing on the large stage before arcade fire. What's also being said is that suede will clash with arcade fire. but nothing official yet... source: official southside and hurricane forums. timetables should be up by the end of next week at the latest i guess. dearreader
Less than a month, woo! I'm getting pumped. One thing I'm curious about: how would you guys rate the safety of the campsite? How safe is it to leave items unattended while we go see band performances? And, since I've not camped at a festival before, do European camping stores (in the Netherlands, specifically) rent out equipment such as tents, or will I be better off just purchasing a cheap one? Any help with this topic would be much appreciated!
edfirth
Fri- 15.40- Yoav 17.15- Kvelertak 18.55- Kashmir 19.45- Probably Converge as I don't like Glasvegas but we'll see 20.10- Or maybe a bit later, some of Elbow (don't need to see all as they're at Beni) 21.00- First half of Chase & Status 21.40- Portishead 22.55- At least the start of Suede 23.25- Depending on how good Suede are I could leave at any time from here to see Arcade Fire 00.45- The Chemical Brothers, though Digitalism is a crap clash for me Sat- 12.25- Cloud Control 12.50- Or whenever Clound Control finish, Pulled Apart by Horses 13.30- The Vaccines. I'm really not keen on these but there's no one else on and they're a big, hyped band 14.45- Warpaint 16.00- British Sea Power 17.30- First half of Friendly Fires 18.00- Sublime with Rome 19.30- Gogol Bordello 20.45- First half of Two Door Cinema Club 21.15- My Chemical Romance, due to no better option 22.30- Kasabian 23.00- At some point, depending on how good Kasabian are, I'll go and see Incubus 01.00- Bright Eyes Sun- 12.00- Everything Everything, if I bother going in early 13.00- Tame Impala 14.15- Darwin Deez 15.45- William Fitzsimmons 16.45- First half of Band of Horses 17.15- Flogging Molly 17.45- Or after Flogging Molly, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour 18.45- The Hives 19.45- Beginning of The Subways 20.15- Eels 20.15- After Eels, the end of Arctic Monkeys 22.00- Trentemoller 22.00- After Trentemoller, end of Foo Fighters The last two clashes, Eels and Artics and Trentemoller and Foos are by far the worst. I see Arctics at Beni though and have seen Foos twice before (but not in ages) Essentially, there aren't really any clashes early on in each day which is great but at the same time there are some late on which is predictable but also dissapointing, especially on the Sunday. Have to accept it though, at Glastonbury last year on Sunday it was something like Empire of the Sun, Stevie Wonder, Ash, Magnetic Man, Orbital and Rodrigo y Gabriela clashing Edited May 19, 2011 by edfirth
fantomas
At first glance will probably do something like this: Irie Revoltes Converge Portishead Arcade Fire Sum 41 (could be fun) Gogol Bordello Lykke Li Kasabian or I am Kloot Kaiser Chiefs or Bright Eyes William Fitzsimmons Band of Horses Flogging Molly The Hives Arctic Monkeys Foo Fighters I like the music going on a bit later than in the UK. Feel like there's not much worth seeing in the daytime on the saturday however. Is it worth a trip to Scheessel during the daytime to have a look round and also get supplies on the friday or saturday perhaps? edfirth
I'd advise Digitalism or Chems on Friday night. Both are great live and I don't think you have to be in to dance music to enjoy either. Have you see Kaisers before?

Janesays
The Vaccines are on so bloody early! Other than that..daytime looks fairly boring. Friday is going to be the down day for us.... Glasvegas and Arcade Fire and then try to figure the rest..I assume we'd catch the end of chem bros? Sat: The Vaccines Prob check out Monster Magnet Friendly Fires The SOunds Two Door Cinema Club (mate dying to see them -I'd rather Chem Romance) Kasabian Kaiser Chiefs Sunday: Flogging Molly Arctics Foos not sure on rest....must google a few that I don't know... Any suggestions to fill up our Friday and Sunday? Edited May 20, 2011 by Janesays
pothead pixie
Just got a volunteering job at the fest, so looking forward to this next weekend, Woot! Can someone give some info or heads up on some of the duties expected of a volunteer?, I have a rough idea as Ive been to a few festivals now, but this would be my first time volunteering. hillsy945
I'm looking forward to: Friday: You Me At Six (quite like em - and they should be playing stuff from the new album) Kvelertak Kashmir (will prob check em out - not fussed who I see at this slot, don't know any of em - but that's the beauty of a festival - can unearth some diamonds - as I did at Reading last year when I found Caribou and in 2007 when I found The Gaslight Anthem) Elbow (love them - and Glasvegas were really poor last week at The Forum) Jimmy Eat World/Portishead - will prob have a look at both of these Arcade Fire - probably THE band I need to see all weekend. Caught the very end of their set at Reading last year and it was excellent. Chemical Brothers - might be a bit bored but wanna check it out all the same. Saturday: The Vaccines (looking forward to seeing em live) British Sea Power - missed em due to delayed trains when they supported the Manics in January Friendly Fires - just unbelievable live - deffo see them! TDCC - saw em in April but will have a quick look My Chem - likewise saw em a few months ago but wanna see how they do at a festival. Kasabian - WOW! Kaiser Chiefs - seen em loads of times before but they are always brilliant live. I love the idea of them closing in the early hours of a Saturday night. Sunday: Blood Red Shoes - superb live! Gogol Bordello - heard so much about their crazy live show. The Hives/Wombats/Kills - all kinda middle of the road indie bands - will see on the day The Subways/Arctic Monkeys - THE horrid clash of the festival for me. Will probably do a bit of both. Foo Fighters - not the biggest fan but would be rude not to check em out.

luke_mullet
Cancelled because they have not finished their album on time. Who f**king cares, nobody cares about new Blink music anyway they just want to see hits. Maybe if they didn't waste their time filming commercials for sports drinks they would have found time to finish the album. And as for adding Incubus instead, that's like a proper kick to the nuts. Guarantee blink end up doing something else this summer instead. Edited May 25, 2011 by luke_mullet

Janesays
Cheers for suggestions, edfirth! Never been to Germany in June... what to do for footwear? For obvious reasons (!) I lived in wellies at oxegen...very hard on the feet/legs... but wondering if they are required/recommended by you more seasoned Germany festival fans? Also...are there places for phones to charge or should we bring a travel charger?
edfirth
I'd probably take wellies, just in case. We're driving though so I have room for it. http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=hurricane+festival&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1440&bih=717 Looks muddy. My feet don't like wellies so I might buy some cheap Airwalks to wear for the festival summer
Squig
I just take real boots, better for the feet and during good weather than wellies imo.
edfirth
I ordered some Vans. They'll do the job as long as it's not a mudbath
