want to help test a new feature?

I've been working on a neat little addition for eFestivals, which I think is just about finished on the technical side - but which has more data to be added to it before it properly launches (so don't go thinking it's complete on that side of things :)).

What I'm looking for from anyone who wants to have a nose around are any suggestions for what might be improved and how, and what other features should be added, or might be neat to add.

Please post any comments back into this thread.

You can access the new feature by clicking here. :)

Ah, nice idea!

What would be a nice addition is, for each vender, a list of festivals they have been seen at i.e. when you click on a food category you get a list of the venders with a picture and star rating, it would be good to have the festivals here too. Also to be able to search by festival would be good. So if I'm going to glastonbury I can search on that, and see all the venders there along with reviews and ratings.

But then I'm stupid, dumb and a moron so what do i know.

Great idea! I love a bit of festie food.

Only one suggestion really (Before Wooderson suggests it for his missus :)) : Gluten free availability. Festivals are a nightmare for coeliacs.

Actually one more for you: Do you remember the guy at Glasto with the seafood stall up near the entrance to the Acoustic Field? He used to have three huge pans with mega jumbo sized prawns in them and lots of other quality seafood but vanished after 2007 I think. Can you find him and convince him to come out of retirement? Or at least tell me where he lives. Ill kidnap his wife and kids and hold them hostage if it gets the job done. "Tiger prawn kidnapping". :D

Cheers

Any chance of putting the prices up or is that gonna be too much work as they'll change depending on the festival?

edit, and what festivals they are going to be at and a full menu of what they sell?

Unfortunately, both the prices change depending on festival, as do the menus for some. So it's not realistically possible to provide that info.

As for the festivals they might be at, again it's not possible to give that info without the traders giving me that info - and aside from for a couple I don't have their contact info to ask them for it.

All good ideas for a perfectly joined up world, but unfortunately the world is not that joined up to give that sort of info.

a great idea - but one someone will have to help with, by telling me which Traders do gluten-free food - of the traders included so far not one of them has anything on display about their gluten use (or not).

Could you not ask the major festivals for a list of venders, or is that difficult info to get your hands on?

some festivals I know for certain regard that info as "their" info, and won't pass it over, so it would never be 100% accurate or complete.

Or a feature which allows efestival members to enter which festivals they've seen them at.

the problem there is that it's only as good as the info people are willing to give - and history gets to show that some prefer to give false info for whatever reasons.

Added with that is that just because a trader is seen at one place one year, there's no guarantee they'll be back the following year - so even well-intentioned and accurate (for the year seen at a fest) info might well be inaccurate for future use.

So with those two things together, that user-provided info is not something that efestivals would want to put its name to. Much of our time here is spent sorting the useless from the useful, so that we're only putting our name to (what we think is) the good info - it would go against everything efestivals has been doing to suddenly abandon that.

If it's too much to get precise info from them for things like menu/prices could you try sub ratings for things like value for money, variety, how grubby are the people serving you, tastiness etc?

It's all too subjective in the main.

(There are a couple of instances where the words we've used against the trader is stepping into that subjective - but in those couple of instances what we've put has been checked with a number of people, and everyone consulted has felt that what's been said hasn't gone too far.)

For people's own opinions, there's the ability for people to help rate each trader by clicking on the stars at the top of the page, as well as for people to leave their comments on a trader.

The whole point of the feature is for people to give their own opinions, to help others make a better choice with what they buy. :)

Which stall is it at SSW that has 'Best festival food ever - efestivals' in mahoosive letters on his banner over the stall? Its usually a couple up from the Moroccan stall

dunno - I've never eaten there (seriously), and want to slap them for having that

I think they took the words from a review that someone once wrote, it might have been scottie. It is a genuine quote from an efests review (I checked once).

You need to include the Pizza guy who was at Alchemy (sadly not sure of the name of the stall, someone else will probably be able to help). His pizzas were the BEST. Fact!

we can only add in stuff we have a photo for - otherwise there's not really much point. "sells pizza" wouldn't guarantee you'd find the right stall.

There's still a fair number of pics we have of stalls from this summer to add in, tho it won't be all of them of course - there's plenty of traders who only do a small number of festivals each summer. The ones we have should get added in by the end of the week.

What we won't be including are the dog burger vans, cos they're all dreadful. :)
