want to help test a new feature?

Won't Glasto give you a list of traders ahead of time? Apparently all the pitches are allocated by April 1, and it appears that the application process is entirely automated, so it would be a dead easy job for them to give you a list.

I'd for one be quite happy to spend half an hour updating a web gui with part of that list if required.

I don't see why you'd need to - most people have net enabled phones - you're at a festival with a bunch of caterers - you have a couple in front of you you're thinking of trying - you log on find them see the rating and the comments (I think that bit's important) and make your decision and enjoy some lush food. There aren't actually all that many caterers on the circuit. I think this year at the dozen festivals I went to there was only two I saw that I hadn't seen at a festival before - they had been at festivals before - but not ones I'd been to.

You could have it such that it only confirms a food stall to be at a festival when X (3,4,5?) people say the food stall is at that particular festival. That would cut down on innaccuracies. But then the system and coding starts to get a bit more complex, not that that would be a problem for someone of Neil's mental capacity though.

the technical side of that would be a breeze.

Far more difficult and time consuming would be dealing with all the people who entered some info and then didn't understand why nothing was displaying as a result - even put in front of them in nice clear words, few would actually read it. Been there, done that, know it's a hiding to nothing. ;)

The food feature obviously. Doofus.

It does, but the influence any one individual has is either limited (in the case of the star ratings), or is clearly that individual's opinion if they leave a comment.

I've faith in people for their contributions at that level, either because of the limited influence any one individual has (in the case of the star ratings), or precisely because it's clearly that person's opinion with a comment. In neither case are these being presented as 'efestivals own information'.

I'm not entirely sure if it was what you were meaning with your posts, but I guess there's scope to do something similar with a "seen at XXX festival" addition to each trader's page, and for them to have who has made that entry next to each one. I'll mull it over for a few days before deciding if I think it's a good idea - so thanks. :)

What about the sausage fest? One of my favorite stalls at glastonbury (at the left hand side of the other stage usually, Think ampersand has got a picture of it..

there's still around 50 or so traders to be added into it, when I've time to do it - which will hopefully be this week, but there's a few background things to do with it that I need to do some work on first.

As yet, the food app isn't properly live, tho people are more than welcome to rate or comment on the traders that are there currently (as I know you've been doing - when someone leaves a comment, the comment is mailed to me, just so I'm able to see that nothing dodgy is being posted).

The point of giving 'early access' to the feature is so that I can hear people's ideas of how they think it might be improved, as well as to track down any glitches that anyone might find (tho of course my coding is so perfect it's always bug free :P).

When you say 'app'... does this mean there will be an actual iPhone/Android app, or is it just the part of the website? I think an offline app would be a great idea if there's not going to be any info RE what festivals the food stalls are at. Phone reception is one thing, but tens of thousands of people accessing the internet from a few square miles is going to make load times a pain the bottom.

Apple nicked the word, I've not nicked it from Apple.

And if you have problems accessing the 'net on your phone from festivals, get another network. I have no problems, ever.

right Mr Rabid, your wishes have (I think) been granted. :)

I've now added an option so that a traders page lists the events they've been seen at, with the opportunity for any user to add to the info if they're able to. Along with this is the ability to get a list of traders seen at a particular festival, so that a person is able to check out those food traders in advance.

I've also added options to display a listing of the best-rated traders downwards and the least-rated traders upwards, so that people can see which are worth buying from and which are worth avoiding.

Any further suggestions for features, or suggestions for improvements?
