yup

So the scottish give free education to scots and EU and charge UK non-scots

That can't be right, surely?

I'm aware that it's residence in Scotland prior to Uni (is there a length of time they have to be resident?) that qualifies someone for the freebie, so perhaps EU people are getting the freebie via their residence?

I can't see how it would be possible to just work things different for just the English without it breaking EU law.

I hear there's 55,000 people there.

I wonder what's happened to the other million-plus students? Do they think the rise in fees is a good thing?

Or is it just that they don't care, because none of it will affect them (it'll only affect students who start their course in 2012 or later). "I'm alright Jack".

Thatcher spawned a wonderful thing. ;)

All in favour of a bit of civil unrest myself - standing about shouting is easy to ignore but a lot of people causing a lot of disruption a lot of times is less so - though best waiting until spring for this kind of thing, it peters out too quickly when its freezing outside. Today on its own wont have an impact, but if it's a start of unrest to come, Clegg might not be given a choice by his party but to sit up and take notice and act accordingly. Let some job cuts start kicking in over winter, watch services disappear at the same time and let's see what can be done come march. The tories might ignore it, the lib dems might not be able to and the former are stuffed without the latter.

BRITAIN today threw its weight behind middle class children who deserve everything handed to them on a plate because they're all so very special.

Image

We're lucky to have them

As spoiled young people who think they know everything attacked the police, across the country millions of ordinary workers cheered them on and said they were the best people in the world.

In central London, more than 50,000 lazy, pretentious, self-absorbed protesters said it was vital for Britain's future that the cost of their education should not be allowed to eat into their handsome, white collar salaries and their capacity to pay for shitty, new world music and holidays in the less touristy parts of Italy.

The protest had already attracted widespread support even before the middle class youngsters had injured some policeman, broken some windows and frightened dozens of people who had been working since nine o'clock this morning instead of watching Cash in the Attic or asking their parents for an increased limit on their credit cards.

Meanwhile prime minister David Cameron has cut short his visit to China and is flying back to the UK so that he can meet with the middle class children and apologise for threatening to make their adult lives very, very slightly less affluent.

The prime minister's spokesman said: "They are heroes, plain and simple. I could try and condemn them for injuring policemen and damaging private property, but it would be a transparent lie.

"We're now going to let them run the country for the next two years because they're so clever and special and they know how everything works."

Roy Hobbs, an ambulance driver from Grantham, said the lazy, middle class children who think they are so f**king brilliant had inspired him to have a lie in tomorrow before quitting his job, taking someone else's money and then punching a policeman if anyone objected.

He added: "I would go down to London and join them if only I was as wise and clever as they are.

"I'm not fit to lick the boots their parents bought them.

Just got back from the march, glad I went. You might say it won't achieve anything and I'm as pessimistic as most but we can but try. They were only expecting 30,000 this morning so 55,000 obviously took them by surprise.

It was in the whole a peaceful process, I watched on from across the road from 30 Millbank as they broke the windows, got on the roof and burnt placards. It was a shame to see it come to this cos really this will overshadow the rest of the march, the 50,000+ who played no part in the scenes seen at 30 Millbank but to be honest I'm not surprised it happened at all; it does show that people care. Although it could be said a lot of the violence was by people there to "protest" rather than there specifically for the cause.

A lot of the hate today was for Clegg anyway due to the pledge he & other Lib Dem MPs signed which they've now gone back on. But there was also the well deserved hate there for the Torys (Cameron especially) and rightly so.

This is just the beginning anyway, could be interesting in the following weeks & could go either way in my opinion. Living in Sheffield though it is especially prominent here due to it being Clegg's constituency; he can look forward to a lot of abuse & badgering here.
