Tuition Fees March

This idea makes me laugh.

Can I take my kid's state-owned school private because I don't think it gets enough money? Then why can other state-owned educational institutions think they can do the same?

I happened to catch Sky news last night in Ikea.

They were showing the footage of the guy the police have arrested in the fire extinguisher from roof incident.

I have to say i feel a bit sorry for him, he's done something stupid and thoughtless but he probably wasnt really thinking straight and caught up in the momentum of the day. Not saying he shouldn't face consequences but he could be done for attempted murder for it. I bet he's terrified.

I had to clarify that i was in Ikea and don't make a habit of watching sky news. I dont make a habit of going to Ikea either lol but i couldnt find a mirror on freecycle.

Its for the courts to decide. I dont know what the usual punishment is for a similar case. The man threw a missile which had the capacity to kill. I remember once a lad jokingly throwing a metal bar over my friends head. He misjudged and nearly hit one of us. If He had hit my friend, I would have wanted him to be punished. A lot of people say this man was caught up in a mob mentality. From my experience people like this are not angelic types who get caught on a bad day. I wonder if a lot of people who feel sympathy for him, would feel sorry if it was someone protesting about something they opposed. I suspect some people saying give him a chance would be paying throw the book at someone protesting in favour of fox hunting, or a religous fanatic protesting against freedom for woman.

all those who can be identified should not be allowed anywhere near a uni for the violence/damage they caused and should be charged for it

The motivation behind the academies programme previously seems to be very different to the current drive for academies.

Also - the decision to become an academy lies with the governing body alone under the most recent legislation and I don't think there is a legal requirement to consult with parents. If parents wanted to establish their own school it would be under the Free School banner, not an academy (although as far as I've gathered the only difference is the name)

so the new deal is 'better', but not as 'good' as it could be (for them). Presumably, the overseas students' subsidise the other ones..?

why should 'we' pay for rich peoples National Health? or if they choose state secondary education, why should 'we' pay for that too?

Because the NHS service everyone gets is the same NHS. The HE the privileged get is very much better than the HE the non-privileged get to a huge extent.

In theory everyone should get the same in the NHS, however working in ths system I ccan assure you that the privilged will have a much greater idea of what is available for them than those living in poverty who really need the help.

no. I think that what some are priveledged and lucky enough to afford should be available for free for everyone

all we know is that during a period when fees were introduced the numbers of students going to university increased

that doesn't equate to the fees encouraging more students
