In my opinion its the best website on the internet. They've got a new appeal going at the moment for donations to keep it independent and free of advertising. I have every respect for the founder of wikipedia withstanding the temptation of selling out.

But I'm toying with the idea of donating ... I love the site, use it a fair amount and I like that its ad free, but should we really be concerned for its content or integrity if it succumbs to advertising?

Has anybody donated or planning to donate?

If so why? If not, why not?

I dunno in reality, I am in half mind as to if its all a big con It is one of those few sites on the internet that are actuarially useful and not just a way to waste bit more time or something we could do entirely without.

As for intergrity with ads? depends on how they do it, I don't see why if it needed the money a few ad boxes would hurt it. Obviously having anything featured or companies being able to stop certain edits of there pages would be inappropriate.

No. Me and a few others just sabotage pages about irrelevant Irish people on it. Especially people that only have one or two line entries.

At least get your made up facts right! The predecessor to XML is SGML, not HTML.
