My girlfriend got me Bestival tickets for christmas. :D

At least with them we know who some of the headliners are (The Cure, Primal Scream, DJ Shadow, Brian Wilson, Grandmaster Flash... ticks all my boxes at the minute). We just have to work out the logistics for it and I'll probably be getting her tickets for her birthday as well. Haven't decided yet what festival to go for but it's looking like Latitude at the minute unless Leeds can pull a rabbit out of the hat and chuck it at us in the form of Soundgarden as headliners.

Thats an awesome present, Bestival's going to be so good. If the Cure are headlining and they're not even closing the weekend, it excites me so much for the other headliners. I was thinking of Latitude but some guy I know kind of put me off slightly.

Depends on lineup :)

If they have blankets and chairs, they won't be chucking bottles and cups. I heard that too - in comparison to much louder festivals, Latitude is quite sedate and uninteresting.

But then the flipside is, some people like that change of atmosphere. I mean, think about it - you live in a city, you put up with a load of shit day in, day out from a lot of loud arseholes who do nothing but destroy your faith in humanity; it's occasionally nice to spend time away from it all listening to decent indie rock, comedy, poetry and literature in a not-too-crowded field on the east coast for a brief weekend.

There's a Latitude thread over on the other festivals board and from it I've learned that it's a very middle class festival. From the OFFICIAL forums, however, I've learned that the main concern of the regular attendees is that tweed is quickly being replaced by Superdry...

I guess at least Piers and Tarquin won't be as troublesome as Stace and Tommo, and any kids you encounter will scarper the minute you look at them with your fist clenched.

I do prefer a relaxed atmosphere, like summer sundae and stuff. Readings probably as wild as it gets so I'll have to compare once I've done it.

I'll probably do it sometime, if they get someone I really like for example, Sigur ros or Modest mouse. hehe.

Well, next year for Latitude I'm putting my faith in Grinderman and/or Swans appearing. They're doing I'll Be Your Mirror the week after in London so I'm hoping they make the short excursion to Suffolk beforehand. Then on top of that you have Pulp, Blur and Suede banging about in the rumour mill. Jane's Addiction, too, are being thrown around.

Leeds will not draw me in unless the first announcement on March the 28th makes me scream in disbelief at how great it is.

I won't. I just won't get a ticket.

Some people, like myself, would rather spend their time going to festivals to actually listen to the music than soak up the atmosphere of being surrounded by tossers. If you take away the good music you'll only be left with tossers so what is there to enjoy? If you want to meet new people, go to a pub or join a singles website - could save you nearly 拢200. If you want to get your fix of popular culture, turn on your television.
