Susprised there's been no comment on the annual shower of shit that is the festival awards?

http://uk.festivalawards.com/news1/and-the-winners-are/

And for reference, here's last years results.

Best Headline Performance: Blur, Glastonbury

Best Major Festival: Glastonbury

Best Medium Festival: Bestival

Anthem of The Summer: Kings of Leon, 'Sex On Fire'

Festival Fitty Award: Damon Albarn, Lily Allen

Best Breakthrough Act: Florence & The Machine

Best Family Festival: Camp Bestival

The Greener Festival Award: Croissant Neuf Summer Party

Best Metropolitan Festival: Gaymers Camden Crawl

Best New Festival: Sonisphere

The Grass Roots Festival Award: Leefest

Virtual Festivals’ Critics Choice Award: La Casa Azul

Best Brand Activation Award: The Schuh Welly

Exchange

Best Overseas Festival: Oxegen

Best Dance Event: Creamfields

Promoter of the Year: Beach Break Live

For convenience I've bolded the events which won the same (or similar) award as last year lol.

I really do NOT understand how T in the Park gets the best toilet award when there are festivals like Beautiful Days and Camp Bestival where the toilets remain utterly pristine throughout the entire festival. Saying that, Glasto toilets have cleaning crews at each portaloo block. At T, I queued for fecking ages (and that was after doing my surreptitious queue hopping trick!) The only clean bogs at T were the not used hardly at all ones all the way over by the Slam tent (which were masterfully overseen on the Saturday by a certain Efest member :D)

People love a good awards ceremony, every industry has something and why shouldn't festivals have something similar? its a chance for various organisers to celebrate their work.

Saying that I think the festivals awards as they are voted for now makes the results invalid. As Ampersand said, Person goes to T and then votes for it in every category.

Is there a voting system out there that will make the result credible?

I don't think that votes are necessarily coming from festival goers. I suspect there's the seen-elsewhere phenomenon going on, of Scottish people voting for something Scottish for T to keep winning best bogs.

It's certainly the case that people with a liking for a particular band vote for that band in the categories that are band votes, rather than people who actually saw that band who vote for that band.

Festival awards that are voted for by non-festival goers. Who'd have thought it eh?

I've finally managed to come up with something.

If anyone knows of an organisation without a festival affiliation of some sort that might want to take up my idea and run a decent set of awards, I'm all ears, and very happy to pass on my idea.

I don't wish to duplicate the flaws in these current awards - such as the guy behind them working for a festival organiser, and that organiser getting a surprising number of their festivals in the shortlists.

Another total disaster at Oxegen at the weekend.

Five people stabbed on Friday night, lots of tents robbed and some set on fire.

Promotors MCD refused to comment. Refused to comment!! After five people were stabbed!! Can you f**king believe it!!??

Two rapes, one in 2006 and one in 2008 and another stabbing in 2009.

Boards.ie (Irish forum) has locked a thread about it "for review", ie a threat (yet again) of legal action from MCD. They did the same thing in 2006, 2008 and 2009. Threatened to sue everyone who talked about it/allowed people to post about it, (look out Neil) including The Irish Independant and RTE, the National broadcaster.

Voted "Best festival in Europe" too somehow.:rolleyes:<_<

By the way, look at how bad this is!!

Shes a former Miss Ireland and shes a "journalist" for some crappy mag. She replaced Jessie J.
