Paolo Nutini Headlining Sunday Night!

Oh man, I've been getting so close to getting a lot of folk from glasgow to come. Told them who has played in the past and they were plesantly surprised but now....uh oh. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it will be one hell of a line-up but looking at the headliners alone you'd be forgiven if you assumed it was a mini T In The Park.......which it is not and will not be.

Clash - here I come! Apart from on Saturday, of course.

I think this sums up the whole Paulo Nutini why was he picked situation. To me at least.

Wrote on my fb that Paulo Nutini was headlining nd theres only 2 types of responses. Those that have been to Rockness before and have a selective taste when it comes to music have replied basically slating and questioning the fact why Nutini is even considered a headliner. The other response is 'Likes' from people who have never set foot at Rockness and who's taste in music in generally centred around whats in the charts.

Hit the nail on head.

I can only imagine there will be an increase in those "chart" type people due to this announcement. I can also envisage an increase in teenagers there for 1 or 2 acts and that generally cause a ruckus just off the back of this announcement (Not a dig at all teenagers as I am one myself, just stating that there will no doubt be a few more troublemakers this year)

I don't really like Paulo and I know I'll be elsewhere when he's on. I just don't think he's suited to the position he has been given looking back at the other acts that have closed the fest - Prodigy, Strokes, etc, Daft Punk even headlined a tent. I understand the need to sell tickets but regardless where he was on the lineup people who were going for Paulo would still go. I just feel there are more deserving acts to close the fest. I actually doubt Paulo will be the "biggest" act on the Sunday. I'm hoping he has purely been announced now to shift some tickets and the acts on before him will prop up the lineup for the RockNess faithful.

Sorry, have to disagree with you there. I've been pretty impressed with the coach + ticket deals so people can come from all over the UK. My home is within 20 miles of Rockness so feel lucky but have lots of friends from all over the UK who want to go, and this has been a great step forward for the festival in having this ticket + travel deal. So just saying, I don't think that's an issue anymore :)

I think people expect too much from Rockness at times. Remember a lot of people paid £99 for a ticket for this festival!

Some festivals such as Belladrum, Wickerman and similar sized events are not far off £90 already (if they don't indeed reach that this year. And those are 2 day events with much, much smaller acts.)

If you want 3 huge name acts and the undercard to match, you will pay £170-180 a ticket.. thats the way the festival scene is just now.

Yes they are TITP acts, but Jim pointed out to me today that pretty much every act ever booked for Rockness has been a regular or played TITP a couple times in the past.. Biffy, The View, P

He also takes on board that the unique electonic acts like Leftfield, Orbital, Daft Punk, Underworld are always wanted by Rockness punters.. but they can't keep repeating acts also.. it's a no win situation as you seen by the reaction that FBS was booked again.

He's went for something different, give it a chance :)

Anyway, this might put of the scummier side of Kasabians fans attending ;)

the scummier side of kasabian fans ? sorry paul but i really have to take exception with you here, which side exactly are you talking about ? ive followed kasabian all over scotland, england and across europe and found there fans to be amongst the most enthusiastic, knowledgable and descent crowd ive ever shared a platform with, supporting one of the greatest but foremost humble bands this kingdom has ever produced. i have read your comments on threads for quite some time i haven't always agreed with you but have always respected you as someone who clwarly loves rockness and puts a lot of time into the forum however on this occasion i think you have crossed the line massively and have come across as a self righteous, pretentious pr**k who has a massively inflated opinion of your own self worth, i take no pleasure in attacking you in such a way as i too am a masive fan of rockness who has been at every minute of every festival to date. i wonder if you could list in full all the kasabian gigs that you have been to and been exposed to "the scummiier side of kasabian fans"

Of course you are entitled to your opinion, as I am entitled to mine (and others who have expressed similar opinion). Obviously you are a fan and have experienced more gigs by them than me, and I take your points on board.

However, I've worked doing security at events all over the UK where Kasabian have played, including Glastonbury x 2, TITP x 2, V Festival. This has included being in the pit when they played, walking through the crowd and dealing with incidents at these festivals. Plus been to a couple of gigs in Scotland where they played too. And during several of these events I have witnessed and dealt with fans of Kasabian who are scum.

Now am not for one minute saying all their fans are the same, but they do have a small minority of fans who are arseholes.. like it or lump it and its these fans that I and others would prefer to stay away from Rockness :)

Also note I used the ;) icon when posting that... obviously you bit

perhaps next year you will stumble across the area my friends and i shall be partying in where i can assure you a warm welcome, beer, smoke and something resembling a conversation will be warmly offered and perhaps may increase your opinion of kasabian fans !

Hmm. I'm underwhelmed by this announcement, but when I think on it, I wasn't particularly keen on The Strokes last year either. In fact, our group all ended up dancing the last hours of the festival away at Arcadia Afterburner and the Bollywood tent rather than watching Sunday's headliner. I'd be highly surprised if Jim King et al are planning on moving away from the largely electronic and dance-based vibe that the festival has traditionally had. That sort of move just doesn't make sense to me: Jim has already said that he doesn't want the festival to grow much bigger, he's happy with it at around the level it's at, so why should there be a move away from what's worked so far?

I reckon we'll see some pretty great dance/electronic acts across all of the other stages, so I'm not too fussed by this announcement. Underwhelmed, yes, but not annoyed or ready to pass on my ticket. I'm not convinced that we'll see a massive increase in the number of neds that turn up either. At least, not any larger an increase than were probably going to be there anyway, purely due to the fact that Rockness is growing in stature every year. It's inevitable that some neds will show up. But, I think that T in the Park will still be a bigger draw for your common or garden ned. At the end of the day, most folks (unless they've been before, loved it, and bought early bird tickets, like many of us here) will wait and see the full line-up before shelling out, and T in the Park will still be a more attractive proposition for such folk, but I can understand the concerns that people have. Rockness has always been a pretty special festival, with a pretty unique crowd - it'd be helluva shame to see it attracting the loutish element in their droves. For what it's worth, I'm going to hold faith that that won't be the case, and if I'm proved wrong come June, well, then I'll probably not be back. But I'll not be losing any sleep over what might be when I haven't a clue how things are going to play out. I know I'm just going to get drunk and dance my nuts off anyway, neds or no.

Now we know why tickets were only £99. I would much rather have paid £150 for better main stage headliners. This is unquestionably the worst main stage headliners since it went a multiday festival. Folk can big up the undercard all they like, but it's the main stage headliners that set the tone of the festival. And the tone of the festival is now TITP.

My ticket is going on eBay.

I think your over reacting slightly. Did you not see 2008 headliners? For a festival the size of Rockness, Chemical Brothers and Kasabian are an achievement to say the least. If you want to see your ticket cause you don't like 3 acts out of 100, then go ahead. We're all not 100% happy about the headliners, but thats never gonna happen? Although in fairness, Paolo Nutini is a shockingly bad headliner IMO

I haven't really been on here much since after Rockness, but seeing that Paolo was hearing I had to come here and check it was right.. last year was my first year at RN and it was amazing, and I've seen the line ups from years before and they were all pretty amazing too! I've not bought my ticket yet but I think I'll wait and see who else gets added, right now I'd just be going for the chemical brothers.. no way should paulo be a headline act for a festival this size! I always thought Rockness was meant to be mainly a electronic dance festival, seems like it's moving away from that this year, I know there's still loads to be revealed but I can see more disappointments coming. Was really hoping for Daft Punk this year since they've started doing more stuff recently and with the release of the TRON OST as well. Would of really liked to have seen Moby as a headline act also! When everyone was talking about the lineup suggestions for 2011 straight after RN this year I thought with all the suggestions that were made on here we would be pretty much guaranteed any three of them, yet we only got one! Paolo would be perfect playing during the day on Sunday, not not as a main headliner. Maybe it will be better than I think, I remember not looking forward to The Strokes and they were amazing, and looking forward to Blondie and she was awful.

Rant Over.

kasabian and paulo nuttini?

this is frankly appalling. i am livid.

rockness has prided itself on its credibility, with past headliners such as leftfield, daft punk, the flaming lips, the prodigy, the strokes, orbital, etc. - it has been getting bigger every year precisely because it hasn't been signing shite titp headliners.

if this is some ploy to sell tickets, you'll end up alienating the fans who love decent music, and you'll quickly become a small version of titp.

The thing is, IMO a headliner should have plenty of big sing a long anthems (obviously dance acts are exempt from this) and I can't really think of that many anthems Paulo has. Yes he has big songs but none really that you can sing a long with.

As for the arguement that the organisers need to book acts like him to sell tickets. I really can't see that many people travelling all that way just for him. Kasabian, yes I could see people coming just for them but not Paulo.

Sadly I just see this as a cheap booking but i'm sure they could've got better for their cash.
