The thing is, IMO a headliner should have plenty of big sing a long anthems (obviously dance acts are exempt from this) and I can't really think of that many anthems Paulo has. Yes he has big songs but none really that you can sing a long with.

As for the arguement that the organisers need to book acts like him to sell tickets. I really can't see that many people travelling all that way just for him. Kasabian, yes I could see people coming just for them but not Paulo.

I agree that Paulo isn't someone I want to see headlining but the same thing happened when Manic Street Preachers were named in 2007. How many people were at the main stage on that night? I'm sure there will be something on in the Clash tent that will make you forget all about the Edinburgh Hogmanay resident.

Lets face it, the majority of dance acts are better in a tent. The majority of acts haven't been announced yet. It is too early to complain about the line up!

Maybe deadmau5 will make an appearance <_<

Very good. Funny how people bring out sales figures when it suits their arguement. Daft Punk would've been a much more popular booking and their sales are pretty shit. Sales don't mean everything otherwise every festival would just book whatever act has the most record sales and that doesn't always translate into them being right for the festival.

I'd prefer Susan Boyle, at least she can hold a note and she's sold shitload more than our Paulo.

I think people need to remember that there are 7 months to go until RN11.. Clash headliners have not been announced. Lets just remember that most of the major electronic acts who have appeared at RN have been in a tent. For example; Daft Punk and Groove Armada in 2007, Underworld in 2008. I have every faith in the organisers that they will put on a festival as good as,if not better than RN10.. There seems to be a fair number of loyal RN fans who are writing off the idea of going to the festival in 2011, which I personally think is ridiculous as there is obviously plenty more acts to be announced. I spent most of my time last year at Rizla, Arcadia Afterburner and of course Clash.

Kris, I agree with you whole-heartedly!! Surely the beauty of a small festival like RN is the eclectic mix of acts and people brought together by a common love of music, no matter what the genre?

The huge majority of festivals always have a broad spectrum of acts playing...someone to suit everyone...maybe having someone like Paolo will allow people who wouldn't have otherwise gone to experience the festival for the first time. And in my opinion, that can never be a bad thing.

People will always have different tastes...to many people Paolo is a crediable artist who puts on a great live show...and for those people who don't agree then there is always something else on offer.

I'll admit I'm underwhelmed by this announcement but I'm not going to get upset about it, certainly wouldn't consider selling my ticket because of it. There's still loads of acts to be announced and I don't doubt that there will be some corkers in there. I've not been to RN before so I'm going with an open mind and the intention to enjoy myself with my mates, no way one act is going to stop me doing that.

The thing is everyone wants the headline acts to be "their" type of music and thats fine, problem is not everyone has the same idea of what "good" music is.

Its unfortunate that people cant see that to keep the festival viable and profitable then Jim has to book a wide range of acts otherwise you end up downsizing to fit into a niche market and as a result end up with the equivalant to coloursfest in a big assed warehouse, shheeeiteeee!

Its everyones festival to enjoy so either go and enjoy or dont and dont bother whinging about it imho

3 big acts already confirmed including the might of the Chemicals, all the other stages still to announce. I cant see a problem?

I'm not too sure about Paolo but i'm not lettin it distract me from all the other awesome stuff thats usually on at rockness, barely spend any time at the main stage last year anyway. the tents are bound to be full o kick ass dance acts and judgin by the mixed response to paolo they'll probably be jumpin!

Obviously I'm still bitterly disappointed with the announcement last night, but after a bit of time to get over it I think it is definitely far too early so call it a mini TITP and to say the feel of the festival has changed etc.

I know it has been said quite a lot on this thread but there will be a lot of acts elsewhere for us all to enjoy. I'm being positive here and thinking that spending less money on the headliners means that there will be a higher quality of acts overall on the line-up.

How can anyone say a festival who in the past two years had two strong electronic headliners and now has one electro headliner, an Indie headliner and a pop headliner and say it hasn't changed.

Rockness was predominately a dance festival and i'm sure it still will be but these headliners are going to bring a completely different crowd. If thats what the organisers want then good for them.

You're thinking 09, it was The Flaming Lips, Basement Jaxx and Prodigy. 08 it was Razorlight and Fatboy.

As for your comments about The Feeling I do agree they were more pop than Paulo but that was the first year the fest was a full weekend and if you look at the line up it's all over the place, I think it was matter of booking whoever were available at the time.
