Classic Rock Sunday? Band Thoughts

I think they shouldn't bother with the classic rock sunday if they're just going to book bands who played in the past 2 years on what is now apparently the 'classic rock Sunday'.

I don't honestly know much about the classic rock stuff, but I was getting the impression they were perhaps scrapping the barrel a bit last year, but hey there could be tons more bands like that I don't know anything about. We'll see, just hope they don't got overboard and rebook the whole of 2009's classic rock line up >_>.

Ratt will probably be back after pulling out last year.

I agree with Jammy that unless they can get the bands and ones that haven't played recently then they shouldn't bother with classic rock Sunday just for the sake of it.

There doesn't seem to be many names going around that I'd be interested, not big names anyway, Scorpions seem to be the biggest and they shouldn't be headlining.

After AC's list of no go's for the festival mind, there doesn't seem to be many names flying around for the top spots at the festival at all now! I wonder what the top 3 of each day is gunna look like!

I think they'd be dishonouring doningtons heritage if they had no classic rock,

But, they're over-egging the pudding a bit now.

It'd be nice to see a change from the poor ac/dc cover bands and the pantera rip off metalcore bands that fill up the lower bill.

As a wildcard, How about the manics? they're pretty strongly influenced by a lot of classic rock, but have their own edge and have the compositional skills to transcend genres within a lot of their albums.... Which isn't something that could be said for a lot of the bands download books nowadays....*Cough* Bullet for my valentine, black stone cherry, Buckcherry *Cough*

On the subject of 'scraping the bottom of the barrel' I dont really agree with that at all. The booking of the main stage 'classic rock sunday' has been pretty uniform in 09 and 10 imo and if it is to continue should carry on in the same manner. Vasically both years has been a combination of bg names (Def Lep, Whitesnake, ZZTop, Journey in 09 and Aerosmith, Motorhead, Slash, Billy Idol this year) a couple of bands who werent as big but still had some success in their prime 9Tesla and Skin in 09 and Cinderella and Ratt before they cancelled this year) and a couple of newer bands who loosely fit in (Black Stone Cherry and Stone Gods in 09 and Dommin and Stone Temple pilots this year)

As for this year I think the Scorpions are a safe bet, Joan Jett would be good too Alice Cooper, Poison and Lynnyrd Skynnyrd would also be welcome. Manic Street Preachers is a great shout and not one I had thought of. A couple of Tesla/Cinderella wildcards that spring to mind would be WASP or LA Guns. Sebastian Bach doing Skid Row songs would be a blast too. As for the headliner if they promised not to play any of their recent country pop junk Bon Jovi would be a graet singalong finale - unlikely now but depends on how well their own concerts are selling. Alternatively a last hurrah for Ozzy or Van Halen seem posibilities though I'm not convinced VH are a headliner over here.

All you need to do is look what is happening at Sweden Rock over the same weekend...

IF there is to be a CR- Sunday, then i would expect the likes of

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

Helloween

Styx

The Damned

Dan Reed Band

Scorpions (yet be be announced for Sweden but imminent)

....to be playing the Sunday..

With no festival dates throughout Europe so far, perhaps Journey, and Foreigner as well but only if their own tour sells well.

As for a headliner of such day i`m still unsure, as Ozzy is now unlikely unless he channel hops inbetween playing dates in Germany, my money is still on Nickelback being announced as the 3rd headliner as they would have a broad appeal to fans of CR and more modern..

I also fully expect Thin Lizzy, The Cult and Europe to be added to Sweden Rock and Download..
