If there had been a decent campaign this year then I don't think he would've got number 1. From what I heard the Factor single didn't sell as many as they expected. Just a shame there were a few campaigns and most were a bit of a shambles. If anyone is planning a campaign next year I'd go for a Christmas song and give the profit to a charity. Then at least you'll get a bit more media exposure.

Was the point really made though? X Factor is back to Christmas number 1 this year so last year would be seen as a minor blip.

Well last year was never to change the opinion of the rest of the public, so of course xfactor's number one again.

Last year they din't have it, this year they did. Having something 50% of the time means it isn't a monopoly. Unless you're only counting this year, in which case it isn't a monopoly either

I don't know. I thought the point was just a protest at X-factor and related manufactured pop shiteness? It did stop the Xmas number one monopoly, it got number one.

maybe monopoly was the wrong word. bottom line is that christmas no.1 is still associated with xfactor. before and after rage.

God I hope not, they should just let the people who think the charts are important make their own choices on what they want to buy.

Otherwise it all ends up a bit hypocritical and also potentially denies another artist who might indeed have made it to number one against X-Factor.

I dont think the analogy is applicable. It was a bit of fun last year that got a bit of momentum behind it. Was it ever intended as an annual event?
