First Festival

I've never been to a festival before, as most of you should have realized from the title. But it's also my second trip to Europe (I live in Georgia.)

And this is so different than what I would traditionally do and I needed to ask a few questions.

Is there a certain area where it would be best for solo people?

And perhaps what are the essential supplies that would be suggested?

Honestly, what I really wanted to know was whether it was something I had to do?

(Like a chance of a lifetime that you couldn't pass up.)

If you could answer me at all it would be greatly appreciated,

if not than so what.

thanks.

You'll never be alone at Glastonbury - unless you want to be. Make friends with your neighbours. Be prepared to share and they'll share with you.

My strongest piece of advice to a Newbie is that the size of the site will probably amaze you. You will walk miles (or kilometres) each day so make sure you've got some comfortable walking shoes or boots. It's also quite easy to lose your sense of direction so familiarise yourself with landmarks and the roadways so you can find your way back to your tent - not so easy in the dark.

You might go out in the morning only to return to discover that your tent has been surrounded by hundreds of others and it's not so easy to spot.

The same is true of parking, if you arrive by car. You need to remember where your car is parked relative to unmoveable things like trees and hedges. No point in remembering that your car was parked alongside a big red van if when it's time to leave you discover that the big red van you were using as a landmark has already left.

Oh dear oh dear,

Your the first Georgian i've ever spoke to and yet, you speak so much sense!

You don't have to go to Glastonbury, it isn't really a choice, you are chosen, you feel like you wanna go your chosen.

I went with just 1 friend this year, we don't have the same music tastes so did our own thing, and i had the most sensational time ever! I met the best, no THE greatest people in the world, at Muse at Thom Yorke hell everywhere i met amazingly amazing people.

Go... at all costs!

Yes, I'm from the United States.

My first time through Europe was last summer but I skipped the United Kingdom.

I believe that I'll be flying over a day or two before the festival begins, but from what you have all said I believe that I have all the essentials.

Now all I have to do is figure out where I will be sleeping while I'm there.

I don't think that it will be all too difficult once I get there.

I can't wait till it begins.

And here was me thinking you were coming from the East of Europe!

I think Dorgon from Cali is coming back to this year. He came over solo in 09 and had a bloody marvellous time and is coming with friends this year.

or whatever it becomes/is called next year is a good consideration for a place to camp for a solo flyer as its a base, always someone around to talk to and someone to bimble off with (bimble being the word we use for just 'bimbling' around site with no real plan, just walking about and randomly heading off to see and do things) and obviously there's folks about who will be wanting to see the same artists as you. Its a very friendly set up and lifelong friendships have come from this camp.

There will be maps, directions, phone number swaps and a Forum group set up well in time for the festival and all campers interested.

Bort (another Yank I think) has done the fest on his own because he couldnt find the Efest camp but had a brilliant time and has a blog about it somewhere. Big JT also came over on his own this year and had a blast but did camp with the gang.

You wont be alone, you've done a great thing by saying hi on here and come June, you will be totally settled and sorted in your mind...the only issue you will have is finding the spot as a newcomer. All this assurance will come and hopefully we will see you in a totally not lost or bewildered state next June :D
