I've seen more gigs this year than in any other, so I've done 20 and still missed some good ones.

Pixies: Troxy (they played my request!)

Jeff Tweedy: Union Chapel (he played my request; then mocked me for it!)

Primal Scream play Screamadelica: Kensington Olympia

Patti Smith: Hyde Park Serpantine Sessions

The Duke and the King: Union Chapel (pretty much any gig involving someone caleld Felice, but this one was the best, honorable mention for Simone solo at a church in King's Cross because it was the first gig he played here after the surgery)

The Low Anthem: EoTR

The Arcade Fire: some theatre in Hackney

Beach House: Shepherd's Bush Empire

The Felice Brothers: EoTR

Wilco: Royal Festival Hall

Holy f**k: Camden Underworld

Jonathan Richman: The Luminaire

The Mountain Goats (tie): EoTR/Koko

The National: Brixton Academy

Godspeed You! Black Emperor: Troxy

Ray Davies: Hop Farm Festival

The Penny Black Remedy: The Luminaire (just unfair to have these guys supporting the Bambi Molestors. They packed the joint, had everyone singing and dancing along (even started a conga line that went out of the venue and downstairs). Then half the audience left for the headliners).

Orbital: Primavera Sound festival

The Clean: Primavera Sound festival (because these countrymen of mine invented indie-rock; just try to disprove it )

Caribou: EoTR

Jeers for:

Noah and the Whale: (band good; braying Hooray Henry fans should die in a fire)

Giant Sand: Howe, exactly what are you trying to accomplish here?

Buck 65: dude, you suck. Give up.

The Smith Westerns: I love your album. Please try not to suck so much or act so bored live. You are young, have fun.

The Stooges: dear Iggy, I've seen your rider and how you care about your sound. So why does it suck so much? Dear Stooges: I know you're old but let's have some energy please - if Iggy can do it, so can you.

Bob Dylan: if I wanted to stand in the dark and listen to music made by people I can't see that doesn't sound much like Bob Dylan I could do that anywhere, without paying for it.

Plenty of lists here that make sense with really good live bands. I can't understand though what anyone sees in Black Mountain. Tedious and conventional rock songs that pretty much anyone could have written. Like a cover band of 70's rock.

Top 15:

1 Modest Mouse - the Troxy, London

2 Yo La Tengo - End of the Road

3 Dinosaur Jr - Sentrum Scene, Oslo

4 Built to Spill - Sentrum Scene, Oslo

5 Wolf Parade - End of the Road

6 Pavement - Way out West Festival

7 Sleepy Sun - Sticky Fingers, Gothenburg

8 The National - Way out West Festival

9 Band of Horses - Trädgårn, Gothenburg

10 Wilco - End of the Road

11 Arcade Fire - Dalhalla, Rättvik

12 Crystal Antlers - Parken, Gothenburg

13 Caribou - End of the Road

14 The Low Anthem - End of the Road

15 Cymbals Eat Guitars - Sticky Fingers, Gothenburg

Worst gigs/Biggest disappointments 2010:

1 Black Mountain - Pustervik, Gothenburg

2 Teenage Fanclub - Trädgårn, Gothenburg

3 Woodpigeon - End of the Road

4 Jens Lekman - Way out West Festival

5 Iggy & the Stooges - Way Out West Festival

Heh. I was furious. I can sort of understand people talking through support acts, or talking during the more obscure songs, but these guys were talking through the quiet obscure songs and then through 'Five Years Time' as well. Why were they at the damn gig???

I only managed it because I have a list of all the bands I've seen this year by my desk :D

this is a lazy cut and paste from a mirror thread in another forum (not to be named of course):

"best best few:

jonsi @ latitude

caribou @ eotr

yeasayer @ heaven

the national @ latitude & warwick

grizzly bear + beach house @ the roundhouse (even though i had one blocked ear)

jeez im so mainstream. "

the only alteration that i'd consider having read everybody elses above is to add shoebox's suggestion of wilderness of manitoba in the woods @ eotr

I really enjoyed their eotr performance so if it is better we're in for a good one. Have you seen any other bands at the uni? I saw black rebel motorcycle club there earlier this year and wasn't too impressed by the sound, but I doubt the holdsteady will have everything turned up quite so loud, so hopefully will be better.
