Van Halen to headline UK festival

Someone else has picked up on this but I thought it deserves a thread of it's own.

Classic Rock (Download sponser) has predicted VH to play a major UK festival.

Would be amazing if it was Download but personally I think it would be Hard Rock Calling.

well it is hard rock calling's 40th year according to their site so they might be pulling out older acts with one new one to celebrate it... not sure about them headlining download but we will see.

I'd love it if it was Download as that would be my chance of seeing them.

I've always avoided Hyde Park like the plague with it's golden circles and that stuff. I'd hate to pay £60+ for a ticket to be stuck at the back watching a badly delayed video screen.

Although i don't mind a bit of V.H i don't know if they are a big enough "current" headliner or have as many well known songs to stimulate a crowd for 2 hours?

Im just a casual fan but thats more songs than i can name from other headliners like, system of a down, faith no more, ratm, lostprophets.

They could easily headline. And they wdnt do anything but.

Their 2007/2008 tour gossed like 90 million. Bare in mind some past headliners/sub headliners have been like academy bands (offspring, lost prophets, stp.

The current version of Van Halen do not play any Sammy Hagar era material..

Eruption is a instrumental, You Really Got Me is a Kinks cover, Unchained is largely unknown..

That leaves 5 bonfide Van Halen classic songs that would take up no more than 30-40 minutes, how would the rest of the 60+ minute set be fleshed out?

I have no doubt about that tour grossing 90 million dollars, but that tour never left the USA, their profile is a fraction of that across the rest of the globe to what it is in the USA, but by all accounts they were still demanding the same sort of monies per show overseas..

Van Halen never have and never will be a major UK festival headlining band, and besides, they will not be in Europe in 2011.

They still play it live. And their version of "you really got me" was HUGE, i remember reading an interveiw with the bloke from the kinks, and he said summin like "kids used to tell me my version of van halen was great".

Its an interesting situation tho, cz on paper Van Halen should definately be headlining, and someone i'd like to see headline. But because they havnt done anything together since the mid 80's they dont have enough hits to pull it off.

But in truth they will neva be at download anything less than top spot.

Also they have a guitar hero game, wtf is on that?.

Why? They played at Donington before at their peak as Special Guests to AC/DC. Can't see why they wouldn't do it again.....if the moneys right.

Trouble is DL would end up paying a million plus for a non headliner, not that they can't afford to.
