Dunno, but I was thinking that making it a specific date and a Thursday to boot, was a little strange. Wondering whether whoever they're announcing as headliner has other news that needs to be announced first. Or I'm wildly speculating and it's just a date that suits them.

Yup, i too reckon the fact that the announcement coincides with the launch of the new Decemberists album is significant!

Mind its also the start of the reissues by The Jayhawks.......and new album in the Autumn!

Stumbled in here whilst listening to the new Decemberists album here. SOunds great to me, too early for me to say whether it is "their best" or not, but sounding good and they would be a good choice for me. Off to see them in Bristol at the end of March

I was wondering whether The National were a possibility for the big announcement this month too, which would also be a great choice in my opinion.

I have discovered more new music at the 2 EOTRs I have been to than anywhere else, so I am confident that I won't be disappointed

He was a revelation (to me anyhow) at EOTR.

Was that EOTR No1 - with a 58person attendance ???

Really can't see it being Grinderman; they're headlining Primavera which is way bigger (e.g. last year Wilco played 3rd top on the main stage at Primavera, and headlined EOTR). Ditto Pavement and the National.

Would love to be proved wrong by any of those bands though . Would love it to be the Magnetic Fields even more.

Not sure announcing any of the above would have much of an impact, if that's what they're looking for. Sufjan, however... After his last album, there's never been a better prospect of the EotR bagging him - the bigger, more commercially minded festivals would probably quibble at the prospect of an 'Age of Adz'-heavy set whereas the EotR would just be grateful to have him whatever sort of noise he wanted to make.

One band that ticks pretty well all every EotR box is, of course, My Morning Jacket. With a new album due early Summer, no surprise at all if they were booked to close out Sunday (and no complaints, either)..
