An utterly out of centre idea.

  1. 1. Do you think it's at all plausible?

Nirvana.

20 years since Nevermind, 20 years since Nirvana played Reading, 40th (or 50th I forget) anniversary of Reading.

Now rather obviously, they wouldn't have Kurt, but considering that Former members have played Nirvana tracks very recently at a secret show (Grohl included), I think there might actually be something there, and what does a guest frontman hurt?

This is a massive hope more than anything. Would it be wrong for this to happen?

Nice thought, but I don't think so. I'd imagine if it did happen (which I don't think it would) it would be something a la Queen featuring Paul Rodgers, where they don't actually replace the lead singer, but who would want to fill Kurbain's shoes I don't know. If they wanted to celebrate the anniversary you'd imagine it would be Foos, which would still have the necessary sentimental value.

No, it's gimmicky for a band like Nirvana. Kurt was always a pretty ethical dude and I think doing something like that would be more akin to the type of thing Journey or Whitesnake would do rather than Wipers or Big Black - "that one last tour" is just such a rock cliche I don't think the other members (especially Novoselic) would buy into.

Yeah, as much as it would be a nice idea, I don't think Grohl and Novoselic would want to do it, just out of respect. I know Sublime did something similar recently but they've always been a bit more low key about Nirvana and I've always got the impression they don't want to tarnish the legacy by holding what would effectively just be a karaoke night to them. Fair play.

Of course it would be something for Courtney Love to cash in on. <_<

not completely out of the ordinary for bands to do that kind of thing. And im sure there are plenty of singers who would love to guest in a few shows, Corey Taylor?? Rivers Cuomo maybe?? And with the 20th anniversary of nirvana at Reading and the 40th anniversary of Reading itself all happening august 2012 it would seem a very interesting idea and surely sell plenty of tickets. however with the foo fighters looking highly unlikely for this year, next year i could see them playing and performing a small encore of nirvana songs, possibly with Taylor Hawkins on vocals for those parts. at this point were still speculating on this years lineup and a lot can happen in 18 months.

Apparently the reason that Krist Novoselic didn't join the Foos back in '95 was that it would have been too uncomfortable; an ad-hoc get together where they only played a b-side that Dave Grohl wrote is one thing but a full-on festival headline slot would be unbearable to watch and I imagine to play as well. Although throw Hole in as sub-headliners and you could market it as some kind of band related royal rumble.

And yes a guest frontman would be a pretty bad idea. It's just a bad idea all round.

I think it's slightly plausible, but imo it'd have to be a secret set really

It'd be the kind of thing that huge numbers of people would turn up to, but I can't the remaining members wanting to be billed as 'Nirvana' with a big slot

So I reckon it's possible, but very improbable and I'm not sure I'd want it to happen

Losing Kurts voice from Nirvana is the worst thing that could happen, It was what made them as good as they were, it just fits so well. A guest singer would be nowhere near half as good.

What would be more likely is for them to play Nirvana live at reading DVD in the cinema tent on the 20th anniversary.

Special Guest sub slot, Nirvana plus a very special guest, would need a legend himself to fill in, Eddie Vedder? someone along those lines. Doubt it could ever happen as dont think dave or krist would ever agree to it, but would love it to happen.
