R.I.P Camping

I havn't been to download (monsters of rock since 1989) and i am going back for the first time since 89 this year.

Does anyone have any details they could pass on regarding the r.i.p camping area

I thought as i'm getting on a bit now that this would be a quieter area after festival finishes and as i have a bad leg maybe not as far to walk from festival to tent and from tent to car

Does anyone know how R.I.P works i.e do you camp next to your car,is there much more room per tent than the usual campsite ?

Any info would be more than welcome.

cheers

Damn the RIP people and their ability to park by their tent!

It is the only thing I am jealous of. That and the teeny tiny walk to the arena from RIP campsite. Compared to cattle class its a hop away.

Oh well, I'd rather be stones throw from the village and thus crawling distance from the bar to the tent! Is it bad that I have actually crawled that before? In my defence I was REALLY drunk!

It has its positives and its negatives to be honest Bekimo, we did RIP last year and have said we wouldn't do it again untill we're old and cant handle standard. For us it just wasn't worth it, You've got the pluses like parking your car next to your tent which makes setting up an leaving a damn sight easier and the short walk to the arena but then you've got to look at the 1 mile plus walk to the village, the noise curfew ( we ended up sat in the car with the music on one night because one of the security staff came round and told us to turn it off about 12:30)the fact you pay to use the tent next to the stage which is good during the day but you couldn't move in there once the bands had finished. We found ourselves getting up early and going straight for the village because that's what a festival is for us, If we could have moved our tent to standard after the first night but left our car in RIP i think we would have done :D last year it was only me and my Mrs who went RIP and we felt like loners, people didn't seem to want to talk to others as much as in standard. When we've been in standard everyone always want to stop and talk and randomly join in conversations but from our experience everyone seemed to have there own click in RIP or had made arrangements before they'd arrived to meet up. It didn't make is any easier after speaking to a woman on the first day on the shuttle up to the village and she kept referring to people is standard camp as "Them" people, for me I would choose standard every year for the time being, and If I wanted luxury I'd buy a weekend ticket and book myself a hotel.

For me personally RIP isn't worth all the extra money but if you are a little older and like a quiet night and easy access to your car and the site then I can see the benefits.
