jump
No chance, old 70's punk bands never play. I can think about 6/7 of the old punk I'd rather have than Undertones.
5co77ie
I dunno they were fantastic at Plymouth Volksfest last year. Both them, Stiff Little Fingers, and various other old punk bands are better than most of the current crop of pseudo fashion conscious bands that roll up every year. jump
Think I saw Undertones about 2/3 years ago at Dingwalls and I was bored for the most part, Stiff Little Fingers are still quality live. I need to see The Vibrators as they are the last old punk I haven't seen that is still going.

5co77ie
Yet again old is equated with being better. Back in my day you had to walk 15 miles in the snow to see a punk band, they had no guitars and only one mohawk between them, but we paid our three shillings and were happy with what we had... RichieParf
I'm not saying it's always the case, but some of the old punk bands, who have never quit the road, are now extraordinarily accomplished musicians, and that shows in their music. Which is no surprise considering they have been playing for so long. There's very few talented new acts around that will still be doing what they do in 20 (maybe 30) years time, those that will be are few and far between. I spoke to a band a while ago now, who shall remain nameless, one of which's daddy was in 'the biz' and they conceded that they had been schooled to have "a pop hit or two" and then would jack it in to pursue a more profitable job - "probably in the city". There's a lot of manufactured bands out there who aren't DIY but DIFFMOF (doing it for five minutes of fame) as some kind of right of passage. 5co77ie
Manufactured bands aren't exactly a modern phenomenen now, the Sex Pistols were manufactured for a start. There are lots of bands out of the punk scene now that could easily be around for 20 or 30 years too, Gaslight Anthem spring to mind. I'm not saying there aren't bands in it for five minutes of fame, but there always have been groups like that.
